    HSE Officer

    Job Description: Health, Safety and Environment Officer

    1. Clear capacity to identify and manage risks and hazards for solar PV Installation, construction and operation sites (rooftop, ground mounted and floating)
    2. Investigate and report all incidents, accidents and near misses and ensure all relevant site documentations are updated daily 
    3. Monitoring the performance progress of the health of the workforce and report back to the HSE Coordinator
    4. Conduct safety induction training for workers/labourers (both permanent and short - term employees) and ensure pre-employment medical examinations are done
    5. Coordinates and assists Site Manager/Supervisor with Incident/accident Investigations to determine root cause and recommend appropriate corrective actions and preventive actions in order to maintain a healthy working environment
    6. Conduct regular Health and safety awareness training including Tool box talks for workers
    7. Support in the management of medical screening and sickness absence
    8. Leads by example to show that safety is the most important function, ensuring that all employees follow safe practices while working.
    9. Accountable to continually reinforce safe behaviours and correct “at risk” behaviours.
    10. Adheres to and ensures all site team members understand standard operating procedures.
    11. Leads and supports the site team in technical, quality and safety, utilising the system in place.
    12. Submit, accurately all site reports on a daily basis to the HSE Coordinator
    13. Requirement:
    14. A Bachelor’s degree in an environmental science/engineering, Health & Safety Environment Engineer, Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent qualification in  NEBOSH IGC or IOSH Managing safety professional certificate.
    15. Expert in construction safety management system especially for working at height activity & rescue and electrical safety management.
    16. Native speaker of Hausa language, advanced level of English, both written and spoken
    17. Valid certification in firefighting, first aid and other relevant safety trainings
    18. Two (2) or more years of Construction Industry Safety experience 
    19. Two (2) or more years of Renewable Energy Safety experience 
    20. Good capacity to train and evaluate competency of workers
    21. Candidates must be adept at using MS Office (Word, Excel and PPT)

    Physical requirements and environment:

    The work environment and physical demands characteristics are representatives of which the employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  

    1. Occasionally: Carrying, climbing, crouching, grasping, gripping, handling, kneeling, pinching, pulling, pushing, lifting, reaching, and stooping
    2. Frequently: Standing and walking
    3. Constantly: Reading, vision, repetitive motions, and sitting
