Health Economist - Pathways to Malaria Pre-Elimination Project
The Health Economist will play a critical role in conducting economic evaluations and cost-effectiveness studies to support the financial sustainability of malaria control interventions in Lagos State.
The successful candidate will ensure that project strategies are economically viable, scalable, and aligned with global best practices in health financing.
All work will be seconded to the Lagos State, Ministry of Health.
This role is based in Lagos, Nigeria, and is eligible to Nigerian nationals only.
The successful candidate will report to the Senior Director of Scale Programs, Maisha Meds, and work closely with other project teams to ensure project sustainability.
This is a fixed-term contract that starts in March 2025 and ends on Dec 31, 2025. Compensation commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
Conduct cost-effectiveness analyses of malaria interventions to evaluate the financial viability of diagnostic and treatment strategies.
Develop economic models to assess the long-term financial sustainability of malaria control efforts.
Evaluate health financing mechanisms and recommend policy improvements to strengthen malaria control funding.
Build and maintain strategic relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies and private sector partners, to align economic strategies with public health goals.
Prepare policy briefs, economic reports, and technical documents to guide strategic decisions.
Assess the Economic Impact of implemented malaria interventions.
Train healthcare providers and policymakers on the principles of health economics.
Present accurate findings through research publications and stakeholders.
Qualifications
Master’s or higher degree in Health Economics, Public Health, or Applied Economics.
5+ years of experience in cost-effectiveness analysis and economic evaluation.
Expertise in health financing models and public-private partnerships.
Proficient in economic modeling and statistical analysis tools (Stata, R, Excel).
Strong policy advisory and stakeholder engagement experience.
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to produce high-quality reports and policy briefs and deliver presentations to varied audiences.
