Generalist – Programme Management at Global Village Healthcare Initiative for Africa (GHIV Africa)

Job Purpose:

• The Generalist – Programme Management will play a cross-functional role in supporting the planning, implementation, and monitoring of GHIV Africa’s projects cutting across Nutrition, Education, and Protection programs. He/she will work closely with the education manager, nutrition manager and protection/gender specialist in carrying out seamless implementation in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe State. The Generalist will work with field teams, technical specialists, and partners to ensure quality program delivery, compliance with donor standards, and the integration of gender and protection principles into all stages of the project cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Planning and Implementation

• Support the design and implementation of GHIV Africa’s programs particularly in nutrition, education and protection.
• Work with project staff to ensure timely and quality delivery of project outputs, including awareness sessions, safe space activities, protection assessments, and referral services.
• Assist in coordinating capacity-building workshops for staff, volunteers, and community members on GHIV Africa projects.

Monitoring and Evaluation

• Assist in monitoring program indicators related to protection and gender, including data collection, beneficiary tracking, and documentation of project results.
• Support the MEAL team in ensuring that gender and protection indicators are integrated into data collection tools and reflected in reports.
• Participate in field visits, program quality checks, and beneficiary feedback mechanisms.

Community Engagement and Empowerment

• Support the implementation of community-based protection mechanisms, women’s committees, and youth-led advocacy activities.
• Facilitate inclusive community dialogues and outreach efforts that promote GHIV Africa’s programs across the BAY states.
• Encourage the active participation of persons with disabilities, adolescent girls, and marginalized populations in program planning and implementation.

Coordination and Partnership

• Participate in protection and gender sector coordination meetings at the field level.
• Support partnerships with government agencies, women-led organizations, community-based groups, and other stakeholders to enhance service delivery and referral networks.
• Coordinate with other program sectors (education, nutrition, livelihoods, WASH) to integrate protection and gender equality across interventions.

Compliance and Safeguarding

• Support the integration and application of GHIV Africa’s safeguarding policy and compliance standards across Nutrition, Education, and Protection project activities.
• Monitor adherence to sector-specific standards and principles—such as “Do No Harm”, informed consent, confidentiality, child-friendly and inclusive approaches—within all relevant interventions.
• Ensure timely reporting and documentation of any incidents or violations related to safeguarding, program quality, or compliance, in line with GHIV Africa’s protocols across all sectors

Documentation and Reporting

• Prepare timely activity reports, success stories, case studies, and input for donor and internal reports.
• Maintain accurate records of project activities, training sessions, and outreach activities.
• Ensure learning, achievements, and challenges are documented and shared internally for program improvement.
• Support the departmental heads in report writing, reviews and presentation of findings.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Law, Psychology, International Development, or a related field.
• 2–3 years of relevant experience in protection, gender-based violence, women’s empowerment, or gender mainstreaming, preferably in a humanitarian or development context.
• Demonstrated experience working with community-based approaches and participatory methods.
• Familiarity with protection principles and minimum standards (e.g., IASC GBV Guidelines, CPMS, Sphere Standards).

Core Competencies:

• Sound understanding of gender dynamics, GBV, child protection risks, and protection in emergencies.
• Ability to support gender analysis and incorporate findings into program design and delivery.

Program Management Support

• Knowledge of project cycle management, basic budgeting, activity planning, and results-based reporting.
• Ability to track outputs and coordinate among cross-sectoral teams.

Community Engagement and Communication

• Strong facilitation and interpersonal communication skills for engaging with communities and vulnerable groups.
• Ability to listen actively and communicate protection messages in a culturally sensitive way.

Monitoring and Evaluation

• Experience supporting monitoring efforts, using tools like beneficiary feedback forms, attendance sheets, and service tracking logs.
• Basic skills in data collection, analysis, and reporting for protection and gender indicators.

• Flexibility and adaptability to evolving program needs and humanitarian contexts.
• Resourcefulness in resolving implementation challenges in complex field environments.

• Strong commitment to upholding protection principles, child safeguarding, and accountability to affected populations.
• Ability to identify and report protection concerns appropriately.

• Ability to work with diverse teams, partners, and community actors in a respectful and inclusive manner.
• Skilled in maintaining constructive relationships with local authorities and service providers.

Preferred:

• Fluency in English and at least one local language (e.g., Hausa, Kanuri, Fulfulde).
• Experience working with adolescent girls, persons with disabilities, and displaced populations.
• Prior experience with donor-funded projects (e.g., UNICEF, ECW, UNFPA, EU).
