Role Summary
The General Manager for Agro Operations oversees the day-to-day management of all crop and livestock activities within SAO Agro. The role ensures efficient farm operations, high-quality output, workforce supervision, compliance with agricultural standards, and effective utilization of resources. The GM translates strategic directives from the Head of Agro Services into operational plans, ensuring optimal productivity, profitability, and sustainability across all farm units.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Manage daily farm operations, including land preparation, planting, crop care, livestock management, harvesting, and storage.
- Execute operational plans, schedules, and production targets as directed by the Head of Agro Services.
- Monitor farm processes to ensure efficiency, quality, and timely outputs.
Workforce Supervision & Performance Management
- Oversee farm supervisors, technical staff, and farm labourers to ensure tasks are executed correctly and safely.
- Assign duties, monitor performance, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Train and mentor staff to improve skills, productivity, and compliance.
Resource Planning & Inventory Control
- Manage farm inputs including seeds, feed, fertilizers, agrochemicals, equipment, and tools.
- Ensure proper maintenance of machinery and infrastructure to minimize downtime.
- Track inventory levels and ensure accountability for all farm resources.
Monitoring, Quality Control & Reporting
- Implement quality control measures across crop and livestock units.
- Maintain accurate records of production, input use, yields, livestock health, and workforce performance.
- Provide regular operational reports to the Head of Agro Services, highlighting progress, issues, and recommendations.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Enforce farm safety policies, biosecurity protocols, and environmental sustainability practices.
- Monitor compliance with regulatory standards and internal guidelines.
- Identify operational risks early and support mitigation strategies.
Operational Problem-Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Troubleshoot operational challenges related to crop performance, livestock health, labor, or equipment.
- Suggest improvements to boost productivity, reduce waste, and enhance profitability.
- Support the adoption of new technologies and improved farming methods.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Agronomy, Crop Science, or related fields.
- 10+ years’ experience in large-scale farm operations (crop & livestock).
- Strong background in hands-on farm management and agricultural production systems.
- Proven experience supervising large farm teams and coordinating daily operations.
- Good understanding of mechanized farming, irrigation systems, feed management, and crop cycles.
- Strong knowledge of operational risk management and farm safety procedures.
