Job Overview
The Hostel Master is responsible for overseeing the welfare, discipline, and daily supervision of students residing in the school hostel. The role involves ensuring a safe, structured, and supportive living environment that promotes students’ personal development, well-being, and adherence to school rules and values.
The successful candidate will act as a mentor and supervisor to students, ensuring proper conduct, maintaining discipline, and coordinating hostel operations in line with the institution’s policies.
Key Responsibilities
Student Supervision and Welfare
- Supervise students residing in the hostel and ensure their safety and well-being.
- Monitor students’ behaviour and ensure adherence to hostel rules and school regulations.
- Provide guidance and support to students regarding personal conduct and responsibilities.
Hostel Management
- Oversee the daily operations of the hostel facilities.
- Ensure hostel rooms, common areas, and facilities are properly maintained and organised.
- Monitor hostel cleanliness and ensure proper sanitation standards.
Discipline and Behaviour Management
- Enforce hostel rules and maintain discipline among students.
- Address behavioural issues and report serious matters to school authorities.
- Encourage positive habits, responsibility, and respect among students.
Coordination and Communication
- Maintain regular communication with school administrators and staff regarding hostel matters.
- Liaise with parents or guardians when necessary concerning student welfare.
- Coordinate with hostel staff such as cleaners, cooks, or security personnel.
Safety and Security
- Ensure students comply with hostel safety regulations.
- Monitor hostel entry and exit procedures.
- Respond promptly to emergencies or incidents within the hostel.
Encourage students to maintain good study habits and responsible lifestyles.
- Support students in maintaining a balanced routine involving academics, rest, and recreation.

Qualifications and Requirements
Education

Experience
- 3–5years of experience working with students, preferably in a boarding school or residential setting.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to reside within or close to the school hostel if required.
- Experience in student supervision, mentoring, or pastoral care is an advantage.
