The Finance Officer is responsible for managing the cooperative’s financial operations, ensuring transparency, accountability, and compliance with established financial policies. The role involves budgeting, bookkeeping, financial reporting, and monitoring of savings, loans, and investment activities. The ideal candidate will have strong financial management skills, a good understanding of cooperative finance systems, and the ability to support decision-making through accurate financial analysis and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee all financial transactions of the cooperative including savings, loans, investments, and expenditures.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for management.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in compliance with cooperative and regulatory standards.
Develop and monitor budgets, ensuring proper allocation and utilization of funds.
Conduct periodic reconciliation of accounts, ledgers and bank statements.
Track loan repayments, interest calculations, and default rates, ensuring proper follow-up and documentation.
Assist in internal and external audits, ensuring all financial documentation and compliance requirements are met.
Advise management on financial risks, cost-saving opportunities, and investment decisions.
Key Qualifications & Skills:
Minimum of an HND/BSc. in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in in financial management, cooperative finance, or microfinance operations.
Strong understanding of cooperative financial systems, loan administration, and regulatory compliance.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or other cooperative finance platforms).
Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
