    Finance Assistant

    Introduction

    Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), is an International Catholic Organization working across 56 countries whose mission is to accompany, serve and advocate for the rights of refugees and IDPs in conflict zones, detention centres, and on remote borders.

    Job Summary
    JRS is recruiting for the positions of Finance Assistant to be based in Maiduguri in  Borno State in preparation for anticipated funding from the European Commission Directorate for Humanitarian Aid (ECHO) for projects to be implemented in Dikwa and Monguno LGAs of Borno State, Nigeria. The Finance Assistant will provide effective financial and accounting support to JRS and report to the Project Director with technical support from the Deputy National Finance Aadministrator to manage various financial and accounting systems, processes and procedures while adhering to all financial policies as well as good accounting practices.

    Key Responsibilities of the position
    Role/Mission

    • Monitor the expenditures to ensure that program funds are utilized appropriately by the close of the fiscal year.
    • Ensure that all financial reporting is completed on time and submitted to donors.
    • Assist in financial inputs for proposal development, project management, Human Resource Management policies, logistics, travel, and other areas of administration.
    • Assist petty cash management and reconciliation, voucher compilation and upload and cost projections.
    • Ensure proper documentation reviews of all payment requests and vouchers, proper filing, and completeness of field voucher files.
    • Review transactions for cost reasonableness, allowability and allocability.
    • Assist with audit preparation, auditor reviews and implementation of recommendations as directed.
    • Expenditure tracking with the use of JRS Navision
    • Assist in the financial operations of the organization and ensure timely and accurate financial reports and practices including cash management, financial disbursements, ledgers etc.
    • Ensure that all travel advances are retired on time and in accordance to JRS policy.
    • Ensure timely posting of all transactions in the NAVISION accounting software and maintaining all financial records for projects and for the organization.
    • Support in the remittance of PAYE, NHF, NSITF, WHT to bank, submit proof of payment to the authorities for collections of receipts for payment and file all payments made.
    • Ensure Compliance to internal processes and procedures, prepare and analyses budgets, assist in developing financial reports.
    • Conduct Pre-Bank Reconciliation exercise to ensure all transactions are properly posted and coded accordingly before the month end closure.
    • Obtain approvals from the National Finance Coordinator, Project Directors and from the donors on all procurements and purchases for the projects and for the organization.
    • Train staff of proper use of the finance forms and proper use of the appropriate codes
    • Perform other duties as required.
    • Promote PSEA and safeguarding standards within JRS and amongst the beneficiaries it serves.

    Required Profile

     Qualification

    • Bachelor’s degree required in any relevant field

    Experience and Skills

    • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working
    • Accuracy and timeliness in all areas of responsibility
    • High level of accuracy in work, and ability to analyse complex sets of relationships and situations.
    • Honest, encourages openness and transparency; demonstrates highest levels of integrity.
    • Have a knowledge of a local language including Kanuri and Hausa.
    • Strong attention to detail, organizational and time management skills
    • Proven computer proficiency in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
    • Experience in ECHO funded projects.
