• Filter Mechanic in the steel industry is a specialized maintenance technician responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of industrial filtration systems. These systems are crucial in steel manufacturing tremove contaminants from hydraulic oil, lubrication systems, water treatment processes, and air/fume exhaust (bag houses) tensure equipment reliability and safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on industrial filter systems (hydraulic, lubrication, air, water), including cleaning, element replacement, and system flushing.
• Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic problems related tfilter systems tidentify root causes of failures.
• Repair & Replacement: Disassemble, repair, and reassemble filter housings, valves, and related components using hand and power tools.
• Welding/Fabrication: Fabricate and weld new filter housings, supports, and frames using MIG, TIG, or Stick welding on stainless steel or carbon steel.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate maintenance logs, documenting parts used, time worked, and technical findings.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere tsafety protocols such as lockout/tag out (LOTO) when working on pressured systems or in confined spaces.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Experience: 2–5 years of experience in industrial maintenance, preferably within a steel, mining, or heavy manufacturing environment.

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Ability tread blueprints and technical diagrams.
• Strong welding and fabrication skills (MIG/TIG/Stick).
• Physical Strength: Ability tlift heavy objects (50+ lbs), work in high temperatures, and work in confined spaces.

Work Environment

• This role operates in a heavy industrial setting, typically in a steel plant or large fabrication shop.
• The environment can be loud and dusty, with exposure thigh heat and hazardous conditions, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Shift work, weekends, and emergency call-outs are often required tminimize production downtime.
