    Country Finance Officer (CFO) and Controller - Nigeria - General Manager

    The Country Finance Officer and Controller is responsible for all aspects of Finance in Nigeria driving legal entity performance, ensuring all Financial control processes are in place, delivering accurate, complete/timely local financial, statutory and regulatory reporting as per the applicable local rules and local / IFRS accounting standards with sound controls, as well as developing Finance talent and bench strength for the country.

    Job Purpose:

    Managing all Finance activities and local reporting for Nigeria

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Closely monitoring legal entity economic conditions and financial performance, including a comprehensive review of the legal entity’s balance sheet and profit and loss (P&L), identifying, and assessing key financial and strategic issues and ensuring proper checks and controls are in place
    • Managing legal entity’s finance requirements including regulatory reporting obligations, liquidity and capital levels and relevant ratios/limits and other key financial indicators
    • Ensure compliance with any local capital requirements and ensuring that relevant Asset and Liability Committees are informed of all capital requirements
    • Support Finance activities required for Local Regulatory Processes such as local ICAAP, resolution and recovery plans, and capital stress testing, if required
    • Actively participate in Country Franchise governance committees and board meetings at legal entity level
    • Be a strategic partner with the businesses, supporting any new business launch, new product introductions, and providing value added financial expertise on franchise related issues including advice on accounting implications
    • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable local laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards (in coordination with Compliance and Risk)
    • Responsible for managing engagement with local regulatory bodies and providing clear/consistent regulatory messaging of country’s narratives with a focus on core activities such as regulatory exam management, supervisory meetings and information requests and responses to supervisory letters
    • Follow common standards, procedures and governance processes to create consistent and best-in-class regulatory relations and communications protocols, and analyze and report regulatory engagements to identify, monitor, and escalate regulatory themes, trends and risks
    • Collaborate with external and internal auditors to maintain integrity of financial, statutory, and regulatory reports, ensure compliance with local laws and regulations, help accomplish objectives by bringing a systematic approach to evaluate and improve effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes

    Development Value:

    • Coordinating and managing the Finance function in Nigeria
    • Exposure to country and cluster management for Nigeria, Sub-Sahara Africa and Middle East and Africa respectively, as well as Banking &International Finance leadership
    • Participating in senior management committees and in decision making process to manage country franchise when necessary.

    Knowledge/Experience:

    • Minimum 15 years post- qualification experience working for an internationally reputed bank’s Finance Department
    • Strong knowledge of banking products and businesses for the entire bank
    • Strong knowledge or risk and controls
    • Knowledge of bank’s systems, e.g. Flexcube, Smart, etc. Skills:

    • Good accounting technical skills
    • Strong leadership skills to manage the Country CFO/Controls and Nigeria Country finance teams remotely
    • Financial modelling and analytical skills Qualifications:

    Competencies

    • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (English or Arabic)
    • Ability to manage and motivate a team of finance professionals
    • Good teamwork and project management skills

    Qualifications:

    • With minimum post qualification experience of 15 years of which 12 years must be within the banking sector with 2 years as DGM/VP with experience in at least 3 three (3) major areas of banking operations or presently on GM grade.
    • Chartered Accountant or equivalent
    • Strong financial accounting background
