    Chief Operating Officer

    To ensure strategic operational deliverables are met within the entire business area

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    General

    • To co-ordinate departmental activities in accordance with company policies, procedures and standards. ISO Standards
    • Coordinate departmental activities and shifts to ensure staff efficiency is at optimum
    • Reduce running costs and enhance profitability of SYNLAB Nigeria operations
    • Monitoring of stock usage (laboratory and general) to ensure minimal wastage
    • Ensure equipment’s are maintained and are working effectively and efficiently
    • Optimize Service levels
    • Increase number of tests - Identifying new tests that can be carried out by our Laboratory
    • To ensure human resources to revenue ratio is maintained within the agreed target
    • Ensure staff are customer focused
    • Coordinate clinical enquiries of Doctors with Pathologist
    • Communicate effectively with Pathologists, Doctors, and other Clients.
    • To ensure routine and preventive equipment maintenance are done as at when due.
    • Domesticate High Volume Send Away Tests
    • To ensure maintenance and continual improvement on ISO 15189 requirements (Processes)
    • To ensure Total Quality Management (TQM) for all assigned locations Best Practice Adherence & SOP Benchmark
    • Leverage Technology to improve customer experience, TAT, Excellent Service and Deliver Brand Promise
    • Effectively management of day - to – day operations
    • To ensure cost of sales to revenue ratio is maintained within the agreed target
    • To ensure that the patient number targets are met (Financials)
    • To ensure operational expenses to revenue ratio is maintained within the agreed target
    • Develop and implement strategies for improving performance – TAT and quality systems in the Laboratory, Front Office and Technical Development
    • Monitoring and management of send-aways as well as all shipping batches to partnering labs
    • Review/ develop departmental SOPs
    • Conducting internal audits to ensure that duties performed are in accordance with ISO standards
    • Responsible for ensuring appropriate corrective actions are taken to address non-conformance/ incidence issues
    • Ensure Accreditation of the laboratory services
    • To implement systems and strategies to enable growth in revenue/patient numbers
    • To maintain quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards across different Operational units.
    • To continuously improve the Infrastructure and provide better service delivery to all clientele
    • To provide monthly report to Management on all infrastructure and incidences

    QUALIFICATION

    • Degree, professional qualification or equivalent
    • Significant additional role related and personal development training commensurate with a very senior management post.
    • 10 years’ experience in a Senior Managerial role

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE

    • Strong project management skills.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strategic outlook and a natural marketing ability.
    • Excellent motivational and leadership skills to inspire performance.
    • Extensive experience in an operational leadership role within the healthcare environment working at board level or high performance at the level below board.
    • Experience of successfully leading and managing a diverse team.
    • Proven performance management of services and delivery of targets within agreed timescales
    • Experience of leading planning cycles from concept to delivery.
    • Experience of working collaboratively and in partnership with other organizations, with demonstrable experience of delivery across organizational boundaries.
    • Demonstrable experience of leading and effectively managing change in large complex environments and of delivering culture shift.
    • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the Pathology industry particularly in relation to service delivery.
    • Strong business acumen, ability to assess opportunities for innovation, revenue generation, partnership, and enhanced care
    • Significant and demonstrable evidence of rigorous financial management/control experience and ability to contribute to SYNLAB’s cost reduction strategy.
