Position Overview
The Business Development Manager (BDM) will be responsible for driving the commercial growth of the organization, a leading player in the manufacturing sector engaged in the production and distribution of PVC pipes and fittings, electrical cables, lubricants, plastic products, and other related industrial goods.
The BDM will lead strategic initiatives aimed at expanding market share, developing new sales channels, and strengthening customer relationships. The ideal candidate should be a strategic thinker with solid experience in industrial and B2B sales.
Key Responsibilities
Market Development & Expansion
- Identify and develop new business opportunities across existing and untapped markets in Nigeria and West Africa.
- Conduct market research and competitor analysis to guide pricing, product positioning, and marketing strategy.
- Establish partnerships with distributors, wholesalers, and key accounts in the construction, electrical, and industrial sectors.
- Drive market penetration for the company’s products in key industries such as building materials, oil & gas, and infrastructure.
Sales and Revenue Growth
- Develop and implement sales plans to achieve monthly and annual revenue targets.
- Monitor and analyze sales performance to identify trends and growth opportunities.
- Collaborate with production and logistics teams to ensure timely product availability and delivery.
- Recommend pricing strategies and promotional campaigns to enhance product competitiveness and profitability.
Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key distributors, dealers, contractors, and institutional clients.
- Ensure high levels of client satisfaction through proactive engagement and after-sales support.
- Lead negotiations and close strategic deals that align with the company’s growth objectives.
Strategy, Reporting, and Coordination
- Prepare business development reports, sales forecasts, and market intelligence for management review.
- Work closely with the Managing Director and department heads to align sales initiatives with company goals.
- Represent the company at trade exhibitions, industry events, and business forums.
Leadership and Team Collaboration
- Provide guidance and support to regional sales and marketing teams.
- Promote a performance-driven sales culture across all channels.
- Mentor junior business development staff and foster cross-departmental collaboration.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Achievement of quarterly and annual sales/revenue targets.
- Increase in market share and distribution coverage.
- Growth in customer acquisition and retention rates.
- Volume and profitability of business generated.
- Number of strategic partnerships and key accounts developed.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5–7 years’ proven experience in business development, industrial sales, or marketing within the manufacturing, construction materials, or FMCG sectors.
- In-depth understanding of B2B sales, industrial distribution networks, and product marketing strategies.
- Strong background in market research, client engagement, and contract negotiations.
