    Senior Manager - Analytics and Operations, Technical

    About the Role

    • Andela has recently surpassed the exciting milestone of 1,700 Andelans (1200+ software engineers) globally, and plans to nearly double by the end of 2020 the Engineering hiring team will drive much of this growth.
    • Andela is looking to hire a strategic and analytical Senior Manager to build and drive the analytics and operations  team within Engineering talent acquisition.
    • This role requires next level excellence in business-minded analytical thinking, project and stakeholder management, and getting stuff done.
    • A person who excels in this role will be comfortable analyzing and manipulating data to identify business improvement opportunities, and creating dashboards that communicate business results and trends across all levels within the organization.

    Key Responsibilities
    Ownership:

    • Building and driving a high-performing, strategic and data-driven Analytics/Operations group, within Andela’s key Engineering scaling org
    • Being a motivated self-starter who can carry initiatives from start to finish, and can work effectively at all levels of the organization across the uniquely cross-cultural Andela environment.
    • Planning and Reporting
    • Drive and run quarterly operational planning process; working closely with leaders in Recruiting, Staffing, Business Operations and Partner Engineering
    • Design and Implement key business initiatives

    Project Management:

    • Lead execution of large-scale projects that directly impact business results
    • Work cross-functionally to develop and execute implementation plans, with appropriate change management strategies

    Data Analysis:

    • Lead analytical deep-dives to explain org performance, identify issues and uncover levers for improvement
    • Identify inefficiencies, and scope, plan and conduct analyses to successfully execute strategic and operational projects
    • Proficiency with data analysis; ability to interpret, analyze and manipulate data strategically
    • Primary point person with Andela’s data and analytics team

    Communication / Collaboration:

    • Clearly and concisely communicate findings to senior management
    • Structure and package work into compelling presentations and communications that influence various audiences, including executives

    Primary point person with the data team:

    • Know where to get the data
    • Running data integrity checks
    • Proactively communicate relevant data with different departments to drive operational improvements
    • Coaching your new team to grow to take ownership of the above

    Requirements

    • Experienced in project managerial and leadership capacities, and knowledge/experience within Talent Acquisition strongly preferred
    • 5+ years experience across consulting, operational leadership, strategic recruiting or project managerial capacities - ideally within technology or top-tier consulting
    • Structured, logical, and creative thinking: the ability to dissect a problem using a critical approach and iteratively test solutions
    • Proficiency with data analysis; ability to interpret and manipulate data strategically
    • Established track record in driving cross-functional initiatives with measurable impact
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present clear, well-thought out recommendations
    • Produce articulate and persuasive cross-functional leadership-level presentations of strategic initiatives (Sr. Director Staffing, Director PX, VP Developer Delivery, etc)

    Engineering Recruiting Lead - Nigeria

    About You

    • Andela is looking to hire Technical Recruiting Lead, to join our Lagos Office. We’ve recently surpassed the exciting milestone of 1,400 Andelans globally, and plan to reach double that size by of 2020 - the Technical Recruiting team will drive much of that growth. Of course, we care about growth in both the quantity and quality of our employees, so our recruiters’ success is measured not just by their time-to-hire and headcount filled, but also by pass-through rate, EPIC values alignment, and other more qualitative metrics. This role is a recruiting leadership role and driving hiring for a flagship Andela position.
    • While based in Lagos - you will collaborate heavily with the recruiting team and department stakeholders in our Lagos, Nairobi, Kampala and Cairo Offices. You will lead a team of Lagos-based technical recruiters, executing distributed hiring for elite technologists across Africa - and partner with Recruiting and People team leads globally. This opportunity is ideal for talent acquisition managers in the tech and start-up space across technical hiring, and ideal for levelling-up in international exposure and work at a mission-driven, fast-paced business.

    Role Responsibilities

    • Managing a high-performing technical recruiting team in Lagos (while scaling the team further) - focussed in hiring technologists across Africa;
    • Partner with Recruiting, People/HR, technical and data teams globally to solve for improving quality of hires, diversity, candidate experience and Andela branding;
    • Building and maintaining strong relationships across Andela Leadership and Recruiting leads - and ensure hiring goals are met.

    • Experience actively sourcing talent across various platforms (such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Github, Angelist, and others) - as you manage a group deep diving across countries to uncover top talent;
    • Technical recruiting managerial or hands-on experience preferred;

    • Understanding of how to best use different technology/tools to optimise a rapidly scaling Africa workforce;
    • Strong time management and organizational skills;

    Qualifications & Characteristics

    Engineering Manager

    Locations: Lagos, Nigeria, Nairobi, Kenya

    About the Role

    • Andela’s Technology department is charged with implementing products that will help Andela to scale with consistency and quality while providing excellent service internally and externally.  It is responsible for finding the best solution for Andela’s needs, not necessarily the best solution that Andela can build.
    • In this role, you will primarily work as a Engineering Manager within the Technology department as a people manager of up to 10 engineers, providing mentoring and coaching to the engineers, and maintaining innovative processes that monitor the health of the engineering team.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Be a combination of a highly-technical software engineer and an effective people manager
    • Recruit Technical Team Leads (TTLs) and Senior Engineers (SEs):
      • Identify potential candidates that best fit the role
      • Interview prospective TTLs and SEs to ensure fit
      • Facilitate onboarding of TTLs and SEs, in collaboration with Ops and P&C teams
    • Manage, measure and improve engineering processes:
      • Onboarding and offboarding process
      • Software development process
    • Manage up to 10 engineers:
      • Manage team members with different skill sets and technical areas of focus
      • Mentor and coach the engineers and ensure their success
      • Encourage and promote best engineering practices with the engineers
      • Encourage a data-driven culture with the engineers to improve the efficiency, scalability, and stability of our in-house systems
      • Support the engineers in identifying, resolving and escalating issues that impact their work
      • Occasionally unblock engineers on complex issues via pair programming, whiteboarding and design sessions
      • Manage and track engineers on performance improvement plans
    • Inter-Departmental collaboration with
      • Engineering Managers to ensure collaboration across the Engineering department
      • Product Managers to advocate for and ensure the prioritization of technical initiatives
    • Cross-Departmental collaboration with:
      • Local Leadership to represent and communicate engineering initiatives
      • Learning team in regards to 1 Year Developer Placement Program
      • Success in regards to internal engagements
      • Operations in regards to hardware for engineers
      • P&C in regards to people issues
    • Support with budget creation, monitoring and adherence responsibilities.

    Qualifications

    • 4-5 years of software development experience
    • 3+ years experience managing and growing software engineering teams as a people manager
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
    • A strong desire to mentor developers
    • Have ability to build rapport and communicate with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
    • Have excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Have strong leadership skills.
    • A Bachelor's or advanced degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
