    Social Worker

    Summary

    • We are looking to fill one (1) Social worker position in our Sokoto Noma & Emergency Response Project.

    Main Purpose of the Position

    • Carrying out all activities involving social support to individual patients/survivors and linking them with other relevant support services and communities at large, according to MSF principles and guidelines. 
    • Enhancing the target population’s social condition to have an impact on health-related outcomes.

    General Accountabilities

    • Conducting social assessments, identifying the social support needs of patients/survivors, including legal, protection, shelter/housing, financial/vocational, food security, and access to medical and psychosocial support services beyond the project intervention scope.
    • Supporting the provision of comprehensive care to patients and their families, by actively coordinating their work with the other members of the MSF multidisciplinary team (eg. medical, MHPSS) and linking with multi-sectoral services such as protection, safety, security, legal, justice, education, and livelihood.
    • Providing direct social support based on social assessments and facilitating referrals to evaluated external re-sources. 
    • Provide systematic follow up care regarding attendance of clinical appointments, and following up on referrals made to relevant multi-sectoral services aimed at improving the quality of life of patients/survivors.
    • Participating in the creation and maintenance of any material needed for the activities of social workers, including facilities and equipment in order to ensure continuity.
    • Mapping and regular updating of formal and informal support services.
    • Assess quality of existing support services, with identification of gaps and advocacy for an improved culturally appropriate social response
    • Maintaining records, statistics, files, and reports on all social work activities and follow up care either provided by MSF or other support services.
    • Identifying gaps in the available services and with the team prioritizing and developing plans following the objectives of MSF.

    Requirements & Qualifications

    • Education: Bachelor`s Degree or Diploma in Social Work (BSW) or related field
    • Experience: Two years minimum in a similar social job; experience with MSF or other NGOs, desirable.

    Midwife

    Main objective and responsibility of the position

    • Provide obstetrical care to pregnant women and their babies, doing follow up before, during and after delivery, according to MSF obstetrical and reproductive health protocols, universal hygienic and newborn caring standards and under supervision of a specialist doctor, in order to ensure their health conditions and avoid post-delivery complications.

    General Accountabilities

    • Provide quality maternal and reproductive health services including antenatal/postnatal care, family planning, deliveries, emergency obstetric care (BEmONC/CEmONC), neonatal care, and safe abortion care in line with MSF protocols.
    • Support the care and management of individuals affected by sexual or intimate partner violence, ensuring compassionate, confidential, and non-discriminatory services in line with survivor-centered principles.
    • Conduct routine counselling on contraception and unwanted pregnancies with respect for patient autonomy and informed decision-making.
    • Ensure infection prevention and control measures, safe equipment use, and proper drug and stock management.
    • Collaborate with the medical team and supervisors for smooth referrals, case management, and ward organization.
    • Participate in safe identification of sensitive cases in designated areas, support data collection, and maintain strict confidentiality at all times.

    MSF Section / Context-Specific Accountabilities

    • To offer survivors of SV / IPV, including medication according to MSF protocols and guidelines and complete all relevant documentation.
    • Respect survivor-centered principles of: informed consent, respect, dignity, privacy, confidentiality and non- discrimination.
    • Offer routinely safe identification in ITFC, Noma SRH room, ATFC/PHC site as per job aid provided.
    • Collaborate with SV supervisor for management of complicated cases and survivors who need admission in maternity.
    • To offer contraception counselling based on MSF protocols and respect patient centered care.
    • To offer counselling and options for women and girls on unwanted pregnancy.
    • Participate data collection activities, ensuring all the cover sheet and data collection tools are up to date and update the SV supervisor Ensure patient’s data confidentiality..
    • Participate in the project meetings, this includes medical meeting and other departmental meeting
    • Ensure a good team collaboration with the MoH team.
    • Flexibility in undertaking assigned tasks, due to the changing nature of MSF operations

    Requirements

    Nutrition Supervisor

    Job Description

    • Ensure the implementation of all nutritional related activities of the programme and coordinate and manage the team under his/her responsibility according to the MSF protocols in order to improve the nutritional conditions of the target population.

    General Accountabilities

    • Plan and oversee all nutrition-related activities, including staffing, budgeting, and service quality in line with MSF protocols.
    • Supervise and support nutrition team recruitment, training, and performance in coordination with HR.
    • Monitor implementation of outpatient nutrition programs, patient progress, referrals, and adherence to medical and nutritional protocols.
    • Ensure proper use and maintenance of medical equipment and that staff are well trained.
    • Supervise hygiene and nursing care standards.
    • Ensure mothers understand their role in their child’s care (feeding, hygiene, etc.).
    • Work closely with the pharmacy team to manage nutrition stock levels and avoid shortages.
    • Oversee data collection, compile statistics, and share reports with the team and line manager.

    MSF Specific Context Accountabilities

    • Oversee nutrition care for severe acute malnutrition patients at Noma Children’s Hospital and the In-Patient Therapeutic Feeding Centre (ITFC), ensuring adherence to MSF protocols.
    • Conduct nutrition assessments upon patient admission and manage their nutritional and health needs throughout treatment.​
    • Participate in daily ward rounds with medical doctors to assess patients and develop management plans.
    • Ensure proper implementation of treatment plans, including nutrition support, rehydration, and hygiene practices.
    • Train, supervise, and support the nutrition team, including nursing assistants and kitchen staff, to maintain high-quality care standards.
    • Ensure adherence to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocols and universal precautions by all nutrition team members.
    • Educate and counsel patients and their families on nutritional issues, ensuring mothers are informed about their roles during hospitalization.

    Requirements & Qualifications

    Health Promoter IEC Officer

    Responsibilities

    • Implement Health Promotion / IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) activities with patients and local population to raise their knowledge and skills on relevant medical topics.
    • Inform patients and communities about MSF and services it provides.
    • According to medical priorities, deliver information to the patients and community on specific health topics
    • Implement activities of health education and awareness (sessions in schools, churches, community), under the indications and supervision of the HP Supervisor.
    • Under the guide of HP Supervisor, assess the impact of activities (with questions, verifications and behaviours observations), and report problems, success and constraints to him/her.
    • Collect all type of information related to specific health and living conditions of the population, in particular to identify the most vulnerable populations to target.
    • Report to HP Supervisor: activities, problems met strengths and constraints.
    • Establish and maintain contacts with social partners, including other NGO’s, governmental health services that can provide answers to social problems.
    • Keep education and communication areas clean, tidy, and professional materials available.
    • Participate in creation of any material needed for the activities of information, education and communication.
    • Design, develop, and adapt IEC materials on SGBV prevention, response, and available services, ensuring they are culturally sensitive and appropriate for the target audience.
    • Collaborate with health promotion teams, medical staff, and community leaders to validate IEC materials
    • Conduct outreach activities, including community meetings, focus group discussions, and awareness campaigns, to educate the community on SGBV issues.
    • Mobilize community leaders, women’s groups, youth, and other stakeholders to participate in SGBV prevention and response activities.
    • Organize and facilitate training sessions for community members, health workers, and other stakeholders on SGBV prevention, response, and referral mechanisms.
    • Strengthen the capacity of local partners and community-based organizations in SGBV IEC activities.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SGBV IEC activities, collecting data and feedback to inform program improvements.
    • Coordinate with medical teams, protection officers, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive approach to SGBV prevention and response.
    • Participate in meetings and forums to represent the project’s SGBV IEC activities and share best practices.
    • Maintain accurate records of all IEC activities, training sessions, and community engagement efforts.
    • Flexibility in undertaking assigned tasks, due to the changing nature of MSF operations.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor Degree in social science, social communication, nursing science, community health extension work
    •  2 years experience in SGBV programming, health promotion, or community engagement, preferably in a humanitarian or development context.
    • Experience in developing and implementing IEC strategies and materials
    •  English language essential. Local language is highly desirable.
    •  Computer literacy (word, excel) is essential
    •  Flexibility, Commitment to MSF principles, Teamwork and result oriented.

    Liason Officer

    Main Purpose of the position

    • The Liaison Officer will serve as a vital link between the project and local communities in Sokoto state-Nigeria.
    • This role requires a proactive, culturally-sensitive individual who can facilitate communication, assist in context analysis, and promote community engagement while ensuring equality and inclusivity.
    • The Liaison Officer will also support the Project Coordinator Support and cover duties in absence.

    MSF Specific and Contextual Accountabilities

    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with community members to foster trust and collaboration.
    • Organize and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and focus group discussions to gather input and provide information about MSF activities.
    • Assist in bridging language barriers by providing accurate translations of project-related materials and communications for stakeholders.
    • Ensure that key messages and project information are delivered in culturally sensitive and accessible ways.
    • Collaborate with the Project Coordinator in conducting thorough context and community analyses to identify needs, dynamics, and potential risks that may impact project implementation.
    • Stay informed about local security situations and social dynamics to provide timely insights for project adjustments.
    • Step in for the Project Coordinator Support during absence.
    • Participate in planning, implementing, and monitoring project-related activities.
    • Participate in community assessments, evaluations, and surveys as needed to gather data and insights that inform project strategies and Analyze feedback from assessments and share with the project coordinator.
    • Participate media reviews and assist in the development of content that effectively highlights community engagement efforts and project successes.
    • Collaborate with Humanitarian affairs to create and document case studies and success stories that showcase the impact of the project in the community.
    • Shares the voices of the beneficiaries and community members to the project coordinator so as to promote equity.
    • Engagement of diverse community members and to ensure their active participation in project activities.
    • Maintain a strong understanding of the socio-cultural differences within the communities, ensuring respectful and effective interaction.
    • Adapt responses and strategies based on cultural contexts and community feedback.

    Requirements & Qualifications
