Main objective and responsibility of the position
- Carrying out basic technical and logistics work that does not require any special qualifications according to MSF procedures and following the line manager’s instructions in order to contribute to the construction, smooth functioning, cleanliness and repairs within MSF premises.
General Accountabilities:
- Performing work in support of skilled workers in the maintenance of MSF premises, facilities and equipment in the areas of carpentry, plumbing, building structures, gardening, etc. This can include but are not limited to the following:
- Loading and unloading vehicles
- Assisting MSF staff carrying items if necessary
- Ensuring there is enough water and reporting their scarcity, (this does not apply for daily labourer.)
- Performing simple earthwork for fixing roads and drains
- Making minor repairs, maintenance and construction works e.g. changes light bulbs, repairs locks, fix fences, painted surfaces
- Doing the gardening in order to maintain clean and organized all areas in the MSF premises
- Ensuring cleanliness of working, common areas and the proper use, storage and maintenance of the equipment and tools provided.
- Informing superiors of any incident that may occur in the course of his/her work.
- Ensuring the proper use of extinguishers.(not standard for a daily labourer)
- Performing tasks delegated to him/her as specified in his/her job description.
Context Specific Accountabilities:
- Assisting with office setups, relocations, and furniture moves.
- Helping maintain cleanliness and organization in office areas, storage rooms, and common spaces.
- Supporting facilities or operations staff with event setup and breakdown (e.g., meetings, trainings).
- Performing other duties as assigned to support the skilled labourer

Main Objective of the position

- Participate in the creation of any material needed for counseling activities and look after it,
- Keep files and statistics of daily activities and participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss special cases with other counselors, preserving confidentiality
- Inform line manager of any problem of any kind arising during the day-to-day activities.
- Take active part in trainings, supervisions/intervisions and support the activities manager when necessary in doing sensitization for MSF staff or external partners about mental health /psychosocial issues.

Supervision/meetings:
- Participate in weekly supervision for cases from MH supervisor/MHAM/MTL and share challenges with supervisor in an immediate manner.
- Attend and actively participate in group and individual clinical supervision with the MHAM/MH supervisor
- Attend the project meeting on daily, weekly or monthly basis and share the update of activities.
- Any other responsibilities assign by supervisor based on need.
- Provide Psycho-stimulation, support group sessions, and one-on-one emotional support counselling and guidance to caregivers and malnourished children, survivors of violence, SV and IPV (children, adolescents, adults and elders) and other vulnerable groups.
- Provide group counselling when needed
- Provide referrals for clients in need of additional specialized mental health support.
- Develop action plans to address patients’ physical, emotional, psychological, social, protection, and provide
follow up to ensure provision of needed services.
- Give survivors information (psychoeducation) and help them identify their needs and options (coping mechanisms).
- Participate in the setting, implementation and reporting of psychosocial activities and other group interventions with specific target population (Survivors of violence, ITFC patients, ITFC caregivers, others).
- Seek out patients that have defaulted while in collaboration with the outreach team.
- Ensure that in providing psychosocial support to the patients, their rights, needs and wishes are prioritized:
- To be treated with dignity and respect
- To allow them choose a course of action in dealing with the violence
- To ensure privacy and confidentiality
- To ensure non-discrimination
- To provide comprehensive information to help make their own decision
- Treat patients and other vulnerable beneficiaries with respect, kindness and in a caring manner, always
maintaining confidentiality and based on patients’ needs and wishes.
- Work in close collaboration with the other team members health promotion (HP) team, medical team and other actors regarding community awareness raising about SV/IPV and the importance of MHPSS component on ITFC interventions, stigma, health consequences, comprehensive medical support, including psychosocial needs and importance of access to care, and assisting with sensitization of new staff on the importance of Mental Health in Sokoto MSF interventions.
- When possible, ensure the awareness raising activities in the community in conjunction with the HP team so that they can understand about the involvement of MH in SGBV, Malnutrition, and promote initiatives to get the support.
- Conduct focus group discussion with family members, community members and neighbours in the field or in the health care centre to understand specific needs.
- Work in collaboration with the medical team (doctors, nurses, midwives and other actors) to ensure comprehensive support for the patients and caregivers at ITFC unit (based on MSF MHPSS intervention plan).
- If needed, support referral pathway, with MTL support when patients’ needs requires more specialized MHPSS
support (psychiatric/pharmacological care).
- Assist with initiation of culturally sensitive community support programs in collaboration with the outreach team.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Accountabilities
- Ensuring the implementation and continuity of antenatal and postnatal care, family planning, obstetrical care (BEmONC 1 and CEmONC 2), neonatal and comprehensive abortion care, management of victims of sexual violence, reproductive tract infections and Fistula care in accordance with MSF Reproductive Core Package of Activities and reinforce the implementation of standardised protocols.
- Where PMTCT is implemented, ensuring implementation of the PMTCT protocol in the ANC/delivery and PNC consultations (pre counselling, test and post counselling
- Collaborating with the medical doctor and /or nurse in the management of Sexual Violence cases
- Assessing the feasibility for referral of pregnant women form the TBAs to the OPD/MCH for medical evaluation and/or complicated deliveries.
- Ensuring hygiene and sterilization criteria (including universal precautions) are met according to MSF specifications.
- Performing cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Following the user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
- Guaranteeing a regular and ongoing supply of drugs and equipment required for maternity activities (including monitoring/consumption control/ordering of orders.
- Properly following up all newborn babies from delivery until discharge, informing mothers and relatives about importance of breast feeding, vaccination and possible complications resulting from harmful traditional practices.
- Ensuring patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality is respected
- Supervising that administrative procedures of admissions and hospitalizations comply with MSF protocols , as well as verify patients are properly informed and receive the documents required (birth certificate, vaccination card, etc
- Participatingin the organisation of the ward in collaboration with other midwifes and the maternity ward supervisor. Ensure transfer of relevant information to the next shift team (specially identifying risk cases)
- According to MSF protocols in force, conduct normal deliveries independently Manage obstetric emergencies; identify cases needing referral and send them in time, clean up the newborn, executing and registering first neo-natal medical acts (cutting and cleaning the umbilical cord, vaccination, etc.), detecting possible anomalies/infections of the newborn and reporting them to the doctor, in order to ensure successful interventions, Supervises the use of drugs, facilities and obstetric material, in order to ensure, in accordance with number of patients and prescriptions, a rational use as well as pharmacy stock levels are permanently
updated, kept under appropriate conditions and above minimum safety point. 1 BEmONC = basic emergency obstetric and neonatal care = Administration of antibiotics, oxytocics, anticonvulsants, manual removal of the placenta, removal of retained products following abortion, assisted vaginal delivery, preferably with vacuum extractor and newborn care including neonatal resuscitation. 2 CEmONC = comprehensive obstetric and neonatal care = the full package of BEmONC Plus; surgery (caesarean section, hysterectomy, laparatomy), safe blood transfusion and care to sick and low birth weight newborns
MSF Section/Context-Specific Accountabilities
- To offer survivors of SV/IPV, including medication according to MSF protocols and guidelines and complete all relevant documentation.
- Respect survivor-centered principles of: informed consent, respect, dignity, privacy, confidentiality and non- discrimination.
- Offer routinely safe identification in ITFC, Noma SRH room, ATFC/PHC site as per job aid provided.
- Collaborate with SV supervisor for management of complicated cases and survivors who need admission in maternity.
- To offer contraception counselling based on MSF protocols and respect patient centered care.
- To offer counselling and options for women and girls on unwanted pregnancy.
- Participate data collection activities, ensuring all the cover sheet and data collection tools are up to date and update
the SV supervisor Ensure patient’s data confidentiality..
- Participate in the project meetings, this includes medical meeting and other departmental meeting
- Ensure a good team collaboration with the MoH team.
