    Head, Diagnostic Imaging

    Job Summary

    • The Head of Imaging is responsible for the comprehensive management and strategic direction of the Imaging Services Department. This role includes oversight of all imaging modalities, including diagnostic imaging, ultrasound, radiology, X-ray services, and interventional procedures. The Head of Imaging will ensure the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and safety standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive experience in imaging services, and a commitment to excellence in medical diagnostics.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Direct and manage all aspects of the Imaging Services Department, ensuring efficient operations across all imaging modalities including ultrasound, radiology, and X-ray.
    • Provide leadership and mentorship to radiologists, ultrasound technologists, radiographers, and support staff; conduct performance evaluations and facilitate professional development opportunities.
    • Develop and implement strategic plans for the imaging department that align with the hospital's goals and objectives.
    • Establish and uphold clinical protocols and quality assurance measures to ensure high standards of imaging services and patient safety across all modalities.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and safety protocols specific to ultrasound and other imaging procedures.
    • Manage the departmental budget effectively, ensuring optimal utilization of resources while maintaining quality service delivery.
    • Oversee the maintenance and procurement of imaging equipment, ensuring it is up-to-date and compliant with safety standards for ultrasound machines, X-ray units, MRI scanners, etc.
    • Work closely with other departments (e.g., Radiology, Oncology) to ensure coordinated patient care and effective communication regarding imaging needs.
    • Build relationships with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, suppliers, and other healthcare institutions to enhance service delivery.
    • Lead initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency, patient outcomes, and service quality within the imaging department.
    • Ensure ongoing education for staff on the latest imaging technologies—including ultrasound techniques—and best practices in patient care.
    • Ensure that patients receive compassionate care throughout their imaging experience; address any concerns or questions regarding procedures.
    • Implement safety measures to protect patients from unnecessary radiation exposure while ensuring compliance with legal requirements related to ultrasound safety.

    Requirements

    Educational Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field; required.
    • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration or a related field; preferred.
    • Current registration as a Diagnostic Radiographer; required
    • Additional certifications in specialised imaging fields (e.g., MRI, CT, Ultrasound Technology); preferred.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in radiology or medical imaging services, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.

    Required Skills:

    • Strong leadership abilities with a proven track record in managing diverse teams.
    • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with staff, patients, and other healthcare professionals.
    • In-depth knowledge of diagnostic imaging modalities (X-ray, ultrasound, MRI) and associated safety protocols.
    • Strong analytical skills for data-driven decision-making related to operational improvements.
    • Financial acumen for budget management and resource allocation.

    Requirements

    Educational Qualifications:

    • Medical degree (MBBS) required.
    • Postgraduate specialization in a relevant field (e.g., Internal Medicine, Surgery) preferred.
    • Valid medical license to practice in Nigeria; Fellowship or Board certification in a relevant specialty is an advantage.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 15 years of experience in clinical practice with at least 10 years in leadership roles within a healthcare setting.
