Job Summary

• We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented General Accountant to oversee and manage the company's accounting operations. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience, with proven experience in the real estate industry. The General Accountant will be responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, reconciliations, tax compliance, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with applicable accounting standards.
• Manage general ledger activities, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Prepare and analyze management reports, cash flow statements, and financial performance reports.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
• Monitor project costs, property-related expenses, and revenue recognition for real estate developments.
• Manage fixed asset accounting, including capitalization and depreciation schedules.
• Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
• Ensure timely filing and remittance of taxes, including VAT, WHT, PAYE, and other statutory obligations.
• Coordinate external audits and provide required documentation and support.
• Monitor cash flow and recommend strategies for effective working capital management.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Support management with financial analysis and decision-making processes.
• Liaise with banks, regulatory authorities, auditors, and other stakeholders as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Professional certification such as ACA, ACCA, or ICAN, is required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience.
• Must have at least three (3) years of experience within the real estate, property development, or construction sector.
• Strong understanding of real estate accounting principles, project accounting, and revenue recognition.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in accounting software/ERP systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, financial modeling, and reporting).
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and Nigerian tax regulations.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
