    Community Engagement Manager

    Duration of Initial Contract: One year initially (Extendable)

    We seek an exceptional candidate to join our Media and Communications Department as a Community Engagement Manager. 

    Background

    In line with our strategy to build strong civic networks, improve visibility, and strengthen stakeholder engagement, Yiaga Africa is seeking an experienced and passionate Community Engagement Manager. The role will be responsible for designing and managing engagement strategies for all Yiaga Africa communities, including alumni networks, volunteers, partners, supporters, civic clubs, and digital communities.

    This role requires a strategic thinker, an excellent communicator, and someone with a deep understanding of community-building in both physical and digital spaces.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement a community engagement strategy aligned with Yiaga Africa’s communications, advocacy, and programmatic goals.
    • Manage and nurture relationships with key Yiaga Africa communities (volunteers, alumni, civic hubs, and digital supporters).
    • Lead initiatives that enhance engagement, storytelling, and participation across communities.
    • Oversee community-focused campaigns and events, ensuring alignment with Yiaga Africa’s mission and values.
    • Collaborate with program teams to identify community champions, mobilize support, and co-create program outreach strategies.
    • Manage communications with community members through newsletters, social media, WhatsApp groups, and other digital platforms.
    • Monitor community sentiment, provide timely responses to inquiries, and escalate issues as appropriate.
    • Track, analyze, and report on community engagement metrics.
    • Document community stories and successes to support program visibility and fundraising.
    • Support the design of engagement toolkits, communication guides, and branding assets for communities.

    Required Skills and Experience

    • A degree in Communications, Public Relations, Development Studies, or a related discipline.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in community engagement, preferably in a civil society, nonprofit, or youth-focused organization.
    • Proficiency in using community management tools, CRM platforms, and social media dashboards.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience in event coordination, partnership building, and managing grassroots networks.
    • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

    Program Manager, Democracy & Governance

    The successful candidate will possess deep knowledge of governance and political systems, exceptional program management skills, and the ability to drive impactful engagement with citizens, institutions, and policymakers.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all Democracy & Governance programs, including elections, legislative advocacy, digital democracy, and civic participation.
    • Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of projects to ensure alignment with organizational goals and donor requirements.
    • Manage program budgets, workplans, and performance metrics.
    • Supervise a team of program officers and ensure quality delivery through mentoring and support.
    • Build partnerships with key stakeholders, including government institutions, civil society, and development partners.
    • Represent Yiaga Africa at high-level meetings, forums, and media engagements.
    • Oversee the development and dissemination of research, policy briefs, and knowledge products related to democracy and governance.
    • Support resource mobilization through proposal development and donor engagement.
    • Ensure compliance with internal and external reporting obligations.
    • Innovate new program approaches in response to emerging democratic trends and challenges.

    • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Required Skills and Experience

    • A minimum of 10 years of experience working on democracy and governance issues, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
    • Advanced degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, International Relations, or a related field.
    • Experience managing multi-donor funded projects with demonstrated impact.
    • Strong understanding of elections, legislative engagement, civic innovation, and/or digital democracy.
    • Demonstrated leadership in managing teams and building partnerships.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and project management tools.

    Language Requirements: 

    Fluency in written and spoken English. Proficiency in French and/or another Nigerian language is an advantage.
