    Electrical and Instrumentation Technician (E&I Technician)

    Position Overview

    The E&I Technician is responsible for performing electrical, instrumentation, and control system maintenance across the JV facility. The role ensures safe operation, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems, instrumentation devices, sensors, control panels, motors, and automation components. The E&I Technician supports preventive and corrective maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and maintain compliance with engineering, OEM, and EHS standards.

    The position reports to the Maintenance Manager.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Perform installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and instrumentation systems such as sensors, actuators, control panels, PLC-related interfaces, and motor control circuits.
    • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical panels, wiring systems, protective devices, and instrumentation equipment.
    • Diagnose faults in electrical or control systems and execute corrective maintenance in accordance with engineering and OEM specifications.
    • Assist with PLC interface checks, signal testing, and instrumentation loop checks where applicable.
    • Interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and instrumentation technical manuals accurately.
    • Ensure proper functioning and calibration of measurement instruments such as pressure gauges, flow sensors, load cells, and temperature transmitters.
    • Support installation and commissioning of new electrical or instrumentation equipment, ensuring correct configuration and integration.
    • Document all maintenance activities, including fault findings, corrective actions, part replacements, and calibration results.
    • Monitor electrical safety risks and ensure strict compliance with lock-out/tag-out, isolation, and grounding procedures.
    • Collaborate with Mechanical Fitters and other maintenance personnel on multidisciplinary repair tasks.
    • Report reoccurring faults, potential risks, and system anomalies to the Maintenance Manager for escalation.
    • Ensure proper handling, storage, and usage of electrical test equipment such as multimeters, meggers, loop calibrators, and continuity testers.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, energy efficiency, and maintenance response time.
    • Maintain an organized and safe workspace, ensuring compliance with housekeeping and EHS requirements.

    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and P&IDs
    • Analytical and troubleshooting capability
    • High attention to detail and accuracy
    • Knowledge of industrial control systems and automation
    • Good communication and record-keeping skills
    • Strong safety awareness and discipline
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

      Experience & Education

    • National Diploma (ND), HND, or vocational certification in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Control, Mechatronics, or related field.
    • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in electrical and instrumentation maintenance within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
    • Hands-on experience with industrial electrical systems, sensors, control panels, and instrumentation devices.
    • Familiarity with PLC interfaces, automation signals, and industrial control logic (basic level acceptable).

    Relevant Certifications:

    • Nigerian Primary (Preferred):
    • Trade Test I–III (Electrical)
    • Electrical competence/license (where applicable)
    • ISPON HSE certification (mandatory for field work)

     International (Added Advantage):

    • Instrumentation calibration certifications
    • OEM-specific E&I equipment training
    • IOSH/NEBOSH awareness certifications
