Position Summary
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will be responsible for developing and executing the organisation's technological strategy. This includes overseeing process control systems, research and development, automation, digital infrastructure, and environmental technologies. The CTO will ensure that all technological initiatives align with business goals and promote operational efficiency, sustainability, and competitive advantage.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Technology Leadership
- Design and implement a long-term technology roadmap aligned with business growth objectives.
- Drive the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies, including IoT, digital twins, and real-time analytics.
- Lead technology investment decisions and build innovation partnerships.
Innovation and R&D Management
- Manage R&D programmes to enhance fertiliser and petrochemical production processes.
- Build collaborations with external research bodies and technology vendors.
- Oversee the protection of intellectual property and the implementation of sustainable innovations.
Process Technology and Automation
- Direct the deployment and optimisation of distributed control systems (DCS) and emergency shutdown (ESD) systems.
- Implement advanced control strategies such as MPC, DMC, and DLPC to enhance operational efficiency.
- Integrate automation across all production units including gas, methanol, and fertiliser lines.
Digital Systems and Analytics
- Champion the use of digital twin technologies and AI-driven predictive maintenance.
- Implement enterprise-wide analytics platforms to support planning and operations.
- Lead cybersecurity initiatives to safeguard digital and industrial systems.
Technology Infrastructure and Systems
- Oversee the development of robust IT and OT infrastructure supporting integrated industrial operations.
- Lead cloud migration strategies and manage industrial communication networks.
- Ensure compliance with international automation and system integration standards.
Environmental and Safety Technology
- Implement real-time environmental monitoring systems for emissions, air, and water quality.
- Introduce technology solutions that reduce waste and greenhouse gas emissions.
- Ensure deployment of safety systems including PSM, SIS, and emergency response tools.
Technology Team Leadership
- Lead and develop cross-functional technical teams including engineers, automation experts, and IT personnel.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with production, operations, maintenance, and compliance teams.

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
- A Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Technology, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Professional certifications in automation, process control, or industrial systems are an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 20–25 years in progressive technology leadership roles.
- At least 15 years of experience in petrochemical, fertiliser, or related process industries.
- Proven record in managing large-scale technology projects and digital transformation initiatives.
- Familiarity with free trade zone operations and joint venture governance is a plus.
Technical Skills
- In-depth expertise in DCS, process control, automation, and instrumentation systems.
- Strong knowledge of methanol production, fertiliser manufacturing, and integrated plant operations.

Key Responsibilities
Corporate Governance and Board Support
Board Meeting Management and Governance Excellence
- Organise and facilitate Board of Directors meetings, committee meetings, and Annual General Meetings in line with applicable corporate laws and governance standards.
- Prepare board meeting agendas in collaboration with the Chairman and CEO.
- Ensure board meetings meet quorum and regulatory requirements.
- Provide impartial governance advice to the Board.

International Trade and Industry-Specific Compliance

Petrochemical Industry Compliance
- Ensure compliance with sector-specific regulations and the requirements of national petroleum regulatory authorities.

Required Qualifications
Educational Background
- LL.B from a recognised university and qualified to practice law in Nigeria.
- OR Membership of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN).
- OR Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) or equivalent.
- A master’s degree in Law (LL.M), Business Administration (MBA), or Corporate Governance is preferred.
- Additional certifications in governance, risk, or compliance are an added advantage.
Professional Experience
- 12–15 years of experience in legal, corporate governance, or company secretarial functions.
- 8–10 years in a senior Company Secretary role within complex private or public organisations.
- Experience with joint ventures, especially involving public-private partnerships.
- Exposure to free trade zone operations or export-oriented businesses is preferred.
- Experience in process industries such as petrochemical or oil and gas is highly desirable.
