About This Role
Our family is growing, and we are preparing to welcome a new baby into a home that already has three wonderful children. As we approach this exciting and demanding season, we are looking for a warm, experienced, and deeply committed Live-In Nanny & Newborn Care Specialist to become a trusted part of our household.
This is not a casual or part-time arrangement. We are looking for someone who will be fully present emotionally, physically, and professionally especially in the critical early weeks and months of our newborn's life. The ideal candidate understands the vulnerability and beauty of the newborn stage: the feeding schedules, the sleep patterns, the developmental milestones, the hygiene demands, and the emotional sensitivity required when caring for a baby.
Beyond the newborn, the candidate will also provide general support for our three other children — keeping them occupied, safe, and cared for when the parents are resting, working, or attending to the baby. This is a role for someone who genuinely loves children and finds deep fulfillment in nurturing and caring for little ones. It is also a role for someone who can be trusted completely, who communicates openly, and who brings calm, patience, and warmth into our home every single day.
If you have experience with newborns, a natural love for babies, and the dedication to be a true partner to our family during this season — we would love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Newborn & Infant Care (Primary Responsibility)
The care of our newborn is the heart of this role. The nanny will be expected to:
- Provide full-time, attentive, and loving care for the newborn from birth through the early months of infancy.
- Assist with and manage feeding schedules — including supporting breastfeeding routines, preparing and sterilizing bottles, and managing formula feeds where applicable.
- Burp the baby correctly and consistently after every feed to prevent discomfort and colic.
- Monitor and track the baby's feeding times, sleep windows, wake periods, and nappy changes — reporting patterns to parents regularly.
- Bathe the newborn gently and safely, following proper newborn bathing procedures including support of the head and neck at all times.
- Perform gentle baby massage to support the baby's comfort, digestion, and bonding.
- Dress and undress the baby appropriately for the weather and temperature of the home.
- Manage nappy changes promptly and hygienically, using correct technique to prevent nappy rash.
- Settle and soothe the baby using age-appropriate techniques — rocking, swaddling, white noise, singing, or gentle patting.
- Establish and support healthy sleep routines and safe sleep practices — including correct sleeping positions and safe sleeping environment.
- Monitor the baby's skin, breathing, feeding, and general behaviour closely and alert parents immediately to any concerns.
- Attend to night-time wakings and feeds as agreed with the parents, particularly in the early newborn weeks.
- Support skin-to-skin contact and bonding opportunities between the baby and parents wherever possible.
Newborn Health, Hygiene & Safety
The safety and health of the baby is always the top priority. Responsibilities include:
- Maintain strict hygiene practices at all times thorough handwashing before and after every interaction with the baby.
- Sterilize all feeding equipment — bottles, teats, breast pump parts — properly and consistently.
- Keep the baby's sleeping area clean, uncluttered, and safe at all times. No pillows, loose bedding, or soft toys in the sleep space.
- Monitor the baby's fontanelle, skin colour, temperature, and general wellbeing daily.
- Recognize the signs of common newborn concerns — jaundice, colic, reflux, constipation, or feeding difficulties and report promptly.
- Understand and be prepared to act in case of emergency — including knowing when to call a doctor and basic infant first aid.
- Administer medications to the baby only when instructed and authorized by the parents.
- Ensure all spaces the baby occupies are baby-proofed and free from hazards.
- Follow any specific medical instructions given by the baby's paediatrician.
Care & Supervision of the Three Older Children
While the newborn is the primary focus, the nanny will also support the care of the existing three children. This includes:
- Supervising the children during play, mealtimes, and daily activities — ensuring they are safe and engaged at all times.
- Helping with morning and bedtime routines — waking up, bathing, dressing, brushing teeth, and settling to sleep.
- Preparing and serving light, age-appropriate meals or snacks for the children when requested by the parents.
- Supporting with homework, reading, or educational activities as needed.
- Engaging the children in creative, fun, and stimulating play — indoors and outdoors where appropriate.
- Managing sibling relationships with warmth and fairness — helping the older children understand and adjust to life with a new baby.
- Keeping the children's rooms, toys, and belongings reasonably tidy.
- Transporting the children to and from school or activities if required and agreed upon with the parents.
Daily Routine & Household Consistency
- Children — especially newborns — thrive on consistency and routine. The nanny will be expected to:
- Follow and uphold the daily schedule established by the parents for both the baby and the older children.
- Maintain accurate logs of the newborn's feeding times, nappy changes, sleep windows, and any unusual observations — using a written or app-based tracker as agreed.
- Provide daily verbal or written updates to the parents on how the baby and children have fared through the day.
- Flag any concerns — however small — to the parents immediately rather than waiting.
- Adjust routines as the baby grows and developmental needs change, in consultation with the parents.
- Be available and responsive during agreed working hours, including night-time shifts during the early weeks.
Baby Laundry, Nursery Upkeep & Equipment Care
The nursery and all baby-related items must be maintained to the highest standard. This includes:
- Washing all baby clothing, muslin cloths, bibs, blankets, and bedding regularly using baby-safe, fragrance-free detergent.
- Ensuring baby clothes are sorted, folded neatly, and stored in the correct sizes and sections.
- Keeping the nursery clean, organized, and free from clutter at all times.
- Sanitizing and cleaning the baby's cot, changing table, bath seat, pram, and other equipment regularly.
- Restocking nappies, wipes, creams, and other baby essentials — alerting parents when supplies are running low.
- Preparing the baby's bag when outings are planned — ensuring all essentials are packed and ready.
Emotional Support, Bonding & Early Development
Babies need more than physical care — they need connection. The nanny must be someone who:
- Talks, sings, and reads to the baby throughout the day to stimulate early language and cognitive development.
- Makes eye contact, smiles, and engages warmly and consistently with the baby during awake periods.
- Responds to the baby's cues with sensitivity understanding the difference between hunger, tiredness, discomfort, and the need for comfort.
- Provides reassurance and emotional warmth to the older children, especially as they adjust to the arrival of a new sibling.
- Creates a calm, peaceful, and loving atmosphere within the home for all the children.
- Never leaves the baby unattended — not even for a moment — during awake or unsettled periods.
- Understands and actively supports the importance of parental bonding — stepping back to allow parents time alone with the baby whenever possible.
Professional Conduct & Expectations
The nanny will be expected to uphold the following standards at all times throughout their employment:
- Discretion & Confidentiality: All matters concerning the family, the children, and the household are strictly private. Nothing is to be shared outside the home — including on social media or messaging platforms.
- Respectful Communication: Any concerns, disagreements, or observations must be communicated calmly and directly to the parents — never in front of the children.
- Respect for Parenting Style: The nanny will follow the parents' chosen approach to feeding, sleep, discipline, and child-rearing — even if it differs from what they may have seen elsewhere. Open dialogue is encouraged, but the parents have final say.
- Punctuality & Reliability: Agreed hours must be honoured without exception. Consistent lateness or absenteeism will be taken very seriously.
- Personal Hygiene: Exceptional personal hygiene is non-negotiable, particularly given the vulnerability of a newborn. Hands must be washed thoroughly and consistently. Any illness must be disclosed to the parents immediately.
- No Visitors: No personal visitors are permitted to the household without prior approval from the parents. The children's safety and the household's privacy are paramount.
- Mobile Phone Use: Personal phone use is not permitted during active childcare duties. The nanny must be fully present and attentive to the children at all times.
- Care of Household Property: All household belongings, baby equipment, and furnishings must be treated with care and respect.
- Social Media: Photographs or videos of the children must never be posted on social media or shared with anyone outside the household without explicit, written consent from the parents.
