    Vice-Chancellor

    The Job

    • The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University as well as the ex-officio Chairman of Senate and member of the Governing Council.
    • He or she is responsible to Council in matters of policy implementation in the area of finance, property/facilities, general administration and good governance of the Institution.
    • The Vice-Chancellor is also responsible to Senate, administration of academic programme and student discipline, in consonance with extant rules and regulations.

    The Candidate

    • The candidate for the post of Vice-Chancellor is required to possess a PhD or Postgraduate Medical Fellowship for those in the Medical Profession and should be a competent manager of human and material resources.

    The candidate shall be expected to:

    • Be highly distinguished and self-motivated academic of the rank of Professor of not less than nine (9) years' experience on that rank in a reputable University;
    • Be a successful scholar well rooted in the finest academic traditions with ability to provide academic leadership:
    • Be a person with good grasp of information and communication technology skills relevant to contemporary times;
    • Be a person of courage but humane, who can take decisive actions on the merit of facts and principles
    • Must be a person of proven integrity, academic and administrative competence to provide effective leadership to a high profile academic community;
    • Should be of high global reputation and command commensurate respect within the academic communities;
    • Be able to create synergy between the University community and its stakeholders devoid of ethnic, religious, local loyalties and other biases;
    • Must not be more than 65 years in age at the time of assumption of office, should be able to serve the full term of five years before attaining the retirement age of 70 years and must be physically and mentally fit;
    • Be able to perform any other lawful duties and responsibilities as may from time to time be directed by Council.

    Terms and Conditions of Service

    • The salary and conditions of service are as applicable to the post of Vice-Chancellor in all Federal Universities in Nigeria and as may be determined by Council from time to time. The Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for a one-term period of five (5) years only.

    • Every candidate shall submit 25 copies of statement of his/her own Vision and Mission for the University in not more than one thousand (1000) words.
    • In the case of a candidate identified and nominated by the Search Team, the Curriculum Vitae must be accompanied by a letter of consent, duly signed and dated by the candidate;
    • All candidates must indicate in their applications the names and addresses of three referees. Each referee must be contacted by the applicant to forward the confidential report directly to the Registrar;
