    Senior Advisor, Agriculture

    Job Description

    Our client, a non governmental and a strong non-partisan platform seeks an Agricultural Policy Advisor to join its team of research, policy, and communication staff in advancing the organization’s policy efforts across multiple states and Agricultural policy areas. This position will be based in the head office in Abuja.

    The Agriculture Policy Advisor, in collaboration with the Policy, Research, and Communications teams, will (1) play a key role in the development and execution of the organization's state policy outreach, identification of policy opportunities, and engagement strategy; (2) support and advance efforts to inform policy communities in the development and implementation of evidence-based Agric policies and practices; and (3) cultivate and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders in the state policymaking arena as appropriate. The Agric Policy Analyst  will work closely with NGF’s Executive Director of Strategy & Research and other members of their Policy Team.

    The successful candidate will bring deep policy advocacy and/or government experience and expertise—including familiarity with research—in one or more of the following Agriculture policy areas:

    • Assessment of the Agric System
    • Research
    • Performance Assessment
    • Donor Agencies’ programmes in Nigeria
    • Policy matters among others

    Job Description

    • Provide technical and administrative leadership of the agricultural policy component
    • Work closely with other component leads, public and private sector financial centers and experts to achieve program results.
    • Manage field and technical experts working strengthening agriculture policy for the sub-national.
    • Plan, design and manage interventions that result in sustainable results that benefit the sub-national.
    • Prepare annual work plans and progress reports, success stories and quarterly reports on results. Analyze data and adaptively manage the plans.
    • Establish relationships with the various levels of government and other donor organizations engaged in similar activities to leverage resources and efforts.
    • Participate in regular field visits to the project areas to assure project progress towards activity objectives and goals.

    Requirements

    • Qualifications and Experience Master’s in agriculture policy, public administration, or similar field.
    • Minimum 15 years and above of program experience required in working with the Public Sector specifically in policy. Must have demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with Federal government as well as State governments. Experience must demonstrate the ability to manage staff, budgets, and program planning.
    • The ability to work in a large team, supervise staff and coordinate programs with partners from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences including public sector, private sector, farmer and trade association​s and villagers.
    • Must be comfortable in high level representational role as well as interacting with individual producers and villagers.
    • Must be comfortable networking and cooperating with donor-funded projects.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in collecting, synthesizing, and evaluating information to support policymakers and policy influencers in using research to develop policy—often in time-sensitive situations.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage and coordinate several projects simultaneously, support team members, and track complex tasks across multiple stakeholders.
    • A commitment to supporting the learning of other team members.
    • Demonstrated ability to plan effectively and the flexibility to handle the unexpected.
    • Ability and flexibility to travel to states across the country as needed.
    • Must be authorized to work in Nigeria for any employer.
    • Skilled at identifying problems and brainstorming potential solutions
    • Adept at using statistics and statistical software
    • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively with other team members
    • Careful about documentation and note-taking
