    Research Consultant

    Position: 2

    About the Role:

    As a consultant, you will be tasked with conducting in-depth research for publication on key aspects of the thirty-five (35) percent affirmative action around emerging trends on the court judgement, serving as a critical source of information for our organization. Your findings will contribute to our understanding of legal precedents, the implementation of court decisions, and areas requiring additional focus for policy development or advocacy efforts.

    Specific Tasks

    • Conduct thorough research on specific areas of court judgements, analyzing relevant legal documents and case law.
    • Identify and summarize key findings, including progress made and challenges encountered in the implementation of court decisions.
    • Provide insights into areas requiring further attention or action, based on your analysis of the legal landscape and societal implications.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to communicate research findings effectively and contribute to strategic decision-making.
    • Stay informed about developments in relevant legal frameworks, legislative changes, and emerging trends impacting court judgements and their implementation.

    Deliverables:

    • Conduct in-depth research on significant areas of court judgements, analyzing key legal precedents, case law, and relevant statutes.
    • Provide a detailed research report summarizing findings, insights, and analysis of important aspects of the court judgements, serving as a valuable source of information for stakeholders.
    • Include comprehensive citations and references to support the validity and reliability of research findings.
    • Identify successes, challenges, and areas requiring further attention or improvement in the execution of court judgements.
    • Analyze factors contributing to or hindering progress, including legal, institutional, socio-economic, and political considerations.
    • Identify gaps or deficiencies in the implementation of court judgements, highlighting areas where legal frameworks, policies, or practices may require enhancement or revision.
    • Provide evidence-based recommendations for addressing identified gaps and improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the judicial process.
    • Propose actionable strategies and policy interventions to strengthen the enforcement and compliance mechanisms related to court decisions.
    • Prepare concise policy briefs summarizing key research findings, insights, and recommendations for wider dissemination and advocacy purposes.
    • Develop targeted communication materials, including infographics, fact sheets, and executive summaries, to effectively communicate complex legal concepts and research findings to non-specialist audiences.
    • Contribute articles, blog posts, or op-eds to relevant publications or platforms to raise awareness and stimulate public discourse on issues related to court judgements and their implementation.
    • An end of contract report. 

    Educational Qualifications:

    • Advanced degree in Law, Legal Studies, Political Science, or a related field.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 7 years of experience in governance and gender research, including quantitative and qualitative methods in development context with demonstrated experience in gender analysis.
    • Proven experience in conducting legal research and analysis, with a focus on court judgements and legal precedents.
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and communicate findings clearly.
    • Familiarity with legal databases, research methodologies, and citation standards.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Previous experience in policy analysis, advocacy, or related fields is desirable but not required.
    • Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Knowledge and/or Nigerian and global development contexts.
    • Strong research skills and ability to work with partners across the country to generate content.
    • Experience in working with an international development organization/NGO/CSO would be beneficial.
    • Commitment to NWTF’s mission, vision and values; displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability; highest standard of integrity, discretion and loyalty.
    • Possess solid political acumen, but not partisan.

    Core skills:

    • Knowledge of women’s human rights instruments (international and national).
    • Strong research, writing, analysis skills in the substantive area
    • Knowledge of the 6 April Judgement in favour of Nigerian women on the 35 percent affirmative action.

    Remuneration

    Negotiable and competitive within the sector.
