    Producer – Radio Drama (Nigeria)

    Job purpose

    • The BBC Media Action office in Nigeria is seeking a Producer – Radio Drama to lead multimedia production for a multi-component Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) programme focused on reproductive health and child spacing in Northern Nigeria.
    • The Producer – Radio Drama will create, design, plan and produce programmes on agreed themes. Facilitate script writing, editing, and production by developing and implementing appropriate mechanisms and systems, while ensuring compliance with established procedures.
    • The Producer – Radio Drama will work on our Hausa-language drama and other productions as assigned. BBC Media Action management reserves the right to assign the Producer to other outputs depending on circumstances, project needs or funding.
    • The Producer - Radio Drama will work closely with other team members, including creative and technical staff, to develop and produce high-quality engaging and impactful episodes of the radio drama.
    • The role reports to the Senior Radio Producer and will work closely with other production team staff.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    • Identify, organise and oversee the activities of writers, actors, directors, technical producers, assistant producers and other personnel throughout the production process for a radio drama, including contracting, logistics, scheduling, research, writing, recording, and editing.
    • Conduct planning and budgeting to cover the entire process of radio drama production: pre-production, production, and post-production.
    • Ensure that all scripts and recordings meet project objectives and align with BBC Editorial values and standards by working with scriptwriters to develop story outlines and edit final drafts, and with actors in rehearsals and recordings.
    • Coordinate and conduct research on themes and ensure all content information is accurate, clear and unambiguous across languages.
    • Take the lead in the organisation of writing and script editing workshops. This includes creating storylines and writing scripts in Hausa and English.
    • Take the lead in the recording of the radio drama on the production set. This involves ensuring that all resources needed for the activity are provided and collaborating with relevant staff to ensure a smooth production process. It also involves directing the radio drama in Hausa and English.
    • Work with technical producers throughout the drama's post-production and ensure the final product is delivered within established timelines.
    • Coordinate with other departments as appropriate to ensure that production outputs are meeting project objectives, drawing on research findings, informing training, and being distributed on time.
    • Able to use a range of audiovisual & digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver programmes in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.
    • Any other tasks assigned by Media Action to achieve project and organisational objectives.

    Required skills, knowledge, and experience

    • Evidence of imagination and an enthusiasm for generating new ideas, particularly those with the widest possible audience appeal.
    • Production background and experience, preferably in the area of radio drama, developing scripts and coordinating script-writing processes
    • Creative writing skills in Hausa and English languages
    • Possess ability to analyse and critically evaluate editorial content, identifying strengths and
    • weaknesses in programme content and ways to improve it.
    • Proven organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Native Hausa language skills.
    • Understanding of the role of communications in development.
    • Sound Editorial judgement and demonstrable understanding of BBC editorial values.
