    Principal Rotating Equipment Engineer

    About the Role

    • We are seeking a Principal Rotating Equipment Engineer with technical depth in Oil & Gas to provide leadership and specialist expertise in rotating equipment engineering, with technical authority and accountabilities, for projects and assets to achieve compliance with Process Safety, HSSE and Quality standards. The position will require supervising and coaching assigned Mechanical Engineering SGP and SATP engineers, Industrial Trainees, and Interns to attain expected levels of competence, and assisting the Head, Rotating Equipment Engineering, in managing the health of the mechanical engineering skill pool and delivering the mechanical engineering improvement plan target. The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably mechanical), has at least 10 years of relevant upstream offshore experience, is COREN registered or eligible, and possesses strong expertise in rotating equipment engineering deliverables spanning the complete E & P Lifecycle: Concept Selection, Front End Engineering Design (FEED), Detail Engineering, Fabrication/Installation, Commissioning and Operations Support.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead Mechanical Engineer responsible for providing mechanical engineering leadership, expertise and assurance services for the Dry systems on Bonga FPSO and various Tie-Back and brownfield projects.
    • Contribute to a diverse skill pool of Discipline Engineering professionals in applying the in-depth technical expertise required for the design, fabrication, installation, commissioning and operations support for rotating equipment systems such as pumps, compressors and drivers (turbines and electric motors).
    • Understand the interfaces in Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSOs) vessels with civil/structural, mechanical static, electrical, automation, controls and instrumentation, process, project engineering, asset engineering and Operations/Maintenance of deepwater development systems.
    • Exhibit strong, proven abilities in rotating equipment engineering.
    • Provide effective interfaces and relationships within/between disciplines, and peers in other P & T teams.
    • Execute, with assigned resources, technical work for FEED and Detailed Designs (designs, specifications, drawings, etc.) and Operations Support within designated CTR scopes.
    • Ensure own discipline engineering and design work successfully delivered and appropriate reviews conducted.
    • Carry out appropriate discipline and inter discipline checks and reviews of engineering and design work.
    • Contribute to the development of execution contracting strategies that compliment designs, construction methods and operating methods.
    • Drive best practices implementation of rotating equipment strategies on the Asset.
    • Remain engaged in design issues and decisions throughout construction, commissioning and start-up.
    • Deliver continuously improving performance, benchmarked as top tier in the industry.
    • Ensure the quality of technical work and the technical integrity, constructability, functionality, safe operation and reliability of designs.
    • Lead or participate in relationships with various industry groups and external service providers.
    • Review of engineering standards and procedures.
    • Identify new technologies for use in the mechanical engineering discipline and contribute to deployment in the business.
    • Participation in mechanical engineering discipline networks.
    • Provide support to the Head, Rotating Equipment Engineering to establish a qualitative delivery capacity for mechanical engineering scopes in projects.
    • Champion application of Requirement Management and System Engineering initiatives for project specifications and contractors' activities on rotating equipment.
    • Contribute to authentic and visible leadership in the areas of HSSE, diversity, coaching, interpersonal and technical skills development, implementation of Nigerian Content Development requirements, and cost leadership in a Nigerian environment. Help to maintain the health of rotating equipment for large, complex deep offshore assets safely, on or below budget according to the business plan.
    • Develop and support a contractor and supplier base for the Floating Systems-managed subsystems of rotating equipment assets. Participate in the support of strategic relationships with specifically identified engineering, installation and maintenance contractors.
    • Understand and use relevant Shell standards, specifications and design processes.
    • Drive technical assurance by assuring engineering and construction of Rotating Equipment engineering discipline scope is carried out in compliance with required project standards and specifications, including DEM1 and DEM2 compliance.
    • Develop equipment specifications, data sheets, cost estimates, and manufacturing schedules for rotating equipment.
    • Support the maintenance of and suggest enhancement of specialized deepwater design and operations support tools.
    • Provide technical support for commissioning/startup of Rotating Equipment.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent) with 12 years post graduate experience in engineering with at least 10 years working as a mechanical rotating engineer in project delivery environment (including familiarity with Rotating Equipment engineering tools).
    • COREN Registered or in the Registration Process.
    • Previous experience leading mechanical engineering team in detailed design and execution of Mega Projects
    • Demonstrable experience in interfacing with other engineering disciplines including Process and Structural
    • Skilled in the use of industry codes and standards
    • Knowledge of construction and integration issues in Deepwater development
    • Experience with or understanding of Operations and Maintenance work process is an advantage.
    • Experienced in Field/facility engineering and technical safety/risk engineering.
    • Good interpersonal and negotiating skills, know-how of planning, economics and auditing.
    • Strong conceptual, innovative, and systems thinking ability
    • Team player, self-motivated, coaching skills, persistence, with ability to think outside- the- box.
    • Visibly demonstrate personal and company HSE commitment.
    • Must have ability to work with and influence multi-discipline and multi-cultural teams.
    • Demonstrated capability to proactively implement plans and follow through with sustained execution, meeting project milestones.
    • Familiar with project development challenges in Nigeria or in other regions with similar challenges.
