Nigerian Sign Language Translator at Bible Society of Nigeria

Key Responsibilities

• Drafting clear and accurate Bible passages for translation.
• Practising Bible passages before recording.
• Recording all Bible passages in NSL.
• Participating in team checks with other translators to eliminate errors.
• Re-recording passages when corrections are required.
• Travelling with the team for community testing exercises.
• Implementing feedback received from the Deaf community.
• Applying TC feedback for improved accuracy.
• Distributing approved Deaf Bible passages to the Deaf community.
• Supporting fundraising efforts for the Deaf Bible cause.
• Carrying out other related duties as assigned.

Personnel Specification

• Bachelor’s Degree in any field (Linguistics, English, Mass Communication, or Special Education preferred).
• Nigerian Sign Language Proficiency
• Must be a Deaf Christian with a strong understanding of Scripture.
• Fluent in Nigerian Sign Language and able to understand English.
• Minimum of two years of continuous interaction with Deaf churches and communities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer applications.
• Strong attention to details, ability to work independently and in a team.
