Mechanical Engineer at African Industries Group (AIG)

Job Purpose

• To plan, execute, and monitor mechanical maintenance activities for DRI plant equipment to ensure maximum reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of rotary kilns, coolers, conveyors, compressors, pumps, and other mechanical systems.
• Supervise and support technicians and fitters during maintenance jobs.
• Inspect and monitor critical rotating equipment for vibration, temperature, and lubrication conditions.
• Participate in root cause analysis of failures and implement corrective and preventive measures.
• Prepare maintenance schedules, and spares requirements in coordination with the planning team.
• Ensure adherence to mechanical safety standards, work permits, and housekeeping during all maintenance work.
• Assist in installation, testing, and commissioning new mechanical equipment or plant modifications.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and generate daily activity reports.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience in DRI, Steel, Cement, or Process Plant maintenance.
• Strong technical knowledge of rotary machinery, conveyors, gearboxes, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
• Familiarity with maintenance management systems (CMMS) and engineering drawings.
• Good communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
