Job Summary:
The Logistics Officer is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the efficient and timely movement of goods, materials, and resources within a company or organization. This role involves managing transportation, warehousing, inventory control, and ensuring the supply chain functions effectively to meet operational demands. The Logistics Officer ensures that logistics processes are streamlined, cost-efficient, and compliant with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Logistics Planning and Coordination:
- Plan, coordinate, and monitor the movement of goods from suppliers to customers.
- Develop and implement logistics strategies to optimize cost and improve efficiency.
- Coordinate with suppliers, transportation companies, and internal departments to ensure timely delivery.
Inventory Management:
- Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure proper stock levels are maintained.
- Conduct regular audits of warehouse inventory to prevent discrepancies.
- Monitor and manage stock levels to avoid shortages or excess inventory.
Transportation Management:
- Select and manage transportation providers to ensure timely delivery.
- Optimize shipping routes and methods to minimize costs and delivery times.
- Track shipments and resolve any issues related to delays, damages, or lost goods.
Warehouse Operations:
- Oversee warehouse operations, including the receipt, storage, and dispatch of goods.
- Ensure proper organization, labeling, and storage of materials in the warehouse.
- Maintain a safe and clean warehouse environment, adhering to safety regulations.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Prepare and manage shipping documents, including invoices, packing lists, and bills of lading.
- Ensure compliance with local and international shipping regulations and customs requirements.
- Maintain accurate records for auditing and reporting purposes.
Supplier and Vendor Management:
- Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and logistics service providers.
- Negotiate contracts and rates with transporters and shipping companies.
- Evaluate supplier performance and resolve any issues related to logistics services.
Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting:
- Address logistical challenges such as transportation delays, shortages, or damaged goods.
- Implement contingency plans to minimize disruptions to the supply chain.
Cost Management:
- Monitor and manage logistics costs, seeking opportunities for cost reduction.
- Prepare reports on logistics expenses and develop strategies for budget optimization.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Generate regular reports on logistics activities, including shipment status, inventory levels, and cost performance.
- Analyze logistics data to identify areas for improvement in processes and efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree,HND or Ond in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Proven experience in logistics, supply chain management, or a similar role.
- Strong understanding of logistics processes, transportation modes, and inventory management.
- Proficiency in logistics software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
- Knowledge of local and international shipping regulations and customs procedures.
