    Legal Officer

    Job Description

    • We are seeking a highly organized, articulate, and detail-oriented Legal Officer with board and management secretariat support to join its Legal & Secretariat Unit.
    • The ideal candidate must have strong legal expertise and exceptional skills in preparing, reviewing, and taking minutes for Management and Board Meetings, as well as providing general legal support to the bank.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Prepare accurate, concise, and timely minutes for Board Meetings, Management Meetings, Committee Meetings, and other key governance sessions.
    • Coordinate pre-meeting and post-meeting activities, including agenda preparation, circulation of meeting packs, and follow-up on action points.
    • Provide legal advice on mortgage transactions, loan documentation, regulatory compliance, and general corporate matters.
    • Draft, review, and vet legal documents, agreements, contracts, mortgages, and security documents.
    • Support the company secretariat in ensuring statutory filings, corporate governance compliance, and proper documentation.
    • Liaise with regulators such as CBN, NDIC, CAC, and other relevant bodies regarding legal and secretarial matters.
    • Maintain an organized repository of meeting minutes, board papers, and legal documents.
    • Ensure timely perfection of mortgage documents, title verification, and property legal due diligence.
    • Represent the bank in legal matters and liaise with external solicitors where necessary.
    • Provide support in policy drafting, regulatory compliance, and internal legal advisory.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    • LL.B Degree and BL (Barrister at Law); membership of the Nigerian Bar Association is mandatory.
    • 5–10 years post-call experience in a Mortgage Bank, Commercial Bank, Law Firm, or Corporate Legal Department.
    • Proven experience in taking and preparing high-quality meeting minutes, especially for senior management and board-level meetings.
    • Strong understanding of corporate governance, regulatory guidelines, and mortgage banking laws.
    • Excellent writing, communication, and documentation skills.
    • Strong organizational ability, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • High level of integrity, confidentiality, professionalism, and discretion.
