    Health and Nutrition Manager

    Job Overview / Summary

    • Based in Gubio or Ngala and under the direct supervision of the Project Lead/Field Coordinator, the Health and Nutrition Manager will provide leadership and supportive oversight for the implementation of OCHA Reserve Allocation 2026 for integrated primary health and nutrition care services in the respective LGAs. S/he will ensure quality implementation, monitoring, and reporting, of the project while ensuring full donor compliance.
    • This includes building the capacity of clinicians and CMAM providers, both at integrated outreach clinics and outpatient therapeutic centers, sustaining RUTF pipeline to ensure the provision of quality healthcare at supported health facilities.
    • The Health and Nutrition Manager will also be responsible for community entry, stakeholder engagement, and coordination with relevant actors to align efforts with project goals for successful outcomes.
    • Technically guided by and in coordination with the IRC Health and Nutrition Technical Coordinator, they will serve as the IRC focal point for the project.

    Major Responsibilities
    Program Management, Technical Quality, and Strategy:

    • Lead the implementation of IRC’s Health and Nutrition program in Gubio and/or Ngala LGAs, ensuring activities are delivered on time and meet IRC, Ministry of Health, and international humanitarian standards.
    • Supervise health and nutrition teams, including medical staff and community teams, to ensure quality service delivery in supported facilities and communities.
    • Work with program officers and facility teams to develop clear work plans, set targets, and track progress against project indicators.
    • Provide regular technical support, mentoring, and on-the-job training to strengthen staff capacity and improve program quality.
    • Support integrated service delivery including primary healthcare, nutrition screening and treatment, maternal and child health, and community outreach activities.
    • Ensure proper implementation of community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) including screening, referral, follow-up, and caregiver education.
    • Promote Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices and support growth monitoring and MUAC screening activities in communities.
    • Participate in rapid assessments and support emergency health and nutrition responses when required, including disease outbreak control and public health interventions.
    • Strengthen referral pathways for patients requiring advanced care and maintain coordination with secondary health facilities.

    Key Deliverables:

    • Provide regular updates and reports on program progress, field visits, trainings, and security context in Gubio and/or Ngala.
    • Document program achievements, lessons learned, and success stories from supported facilities and communities.
    • Identify challenges and gaps in implementation and propose solutions to improve service delivery.
    • Ensure accurate and timely data collection, analysis, and reporting.

    Program Development and Grant Management:

    • Support planning and implementation of health and nutrition project activities in line with approved budgets and donor requirements.
    • Monitor program expenditures and ensure resources are used efficiently and according to IRC financial procedures.
    • Contribute to donor reporting and proposal development when required.

    Staff Management and Capacity Building:

    • Supervise and support health and nutrition staff in Gubio and Ngala.
    • Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to improve staff technical and management skills.
    • Set clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance reviews.
    • Promote teamwork, professional conduct, and staff well-being.

    Monitoring, Learning, and Program Improvement:

    • Monitor project implementation through regular field visits and support teams to address gaps in service delivery.
    • Review health and nutrition data regularly and guide teams to use findings to improve program performance.
    • Promote integrated programming with other sectors such as WASH, Protection, and Women Protection and Empowerment (WPE) to ensure comprehensive support for affected communities.

    Coordination and Representation:

    • Represent IRC in coordination meetings with local government health authorities, partners, and community leaders in Gubio and Ngala.
    • Maintain strong collaboration with the Ministry of Health, humanitarian partners, and community structures to support effective service delivery.
    • Facilitate visits by IRC leadership, donors, and partners to project sites when required.

    Qualifications
    Education:

    • Health professional (Nursing, Medicine, Nutrition, Public Health or related field) with experience in humanitarian health programming.

    Experience:

    • Minimum 3 years’ experience implementing health and nutrition programs.
    • Experience supervising teams and supporting community health activities.
    • Experience responding to public health emergencies or disease outbreaks is an advantage.
    • Experience working with IDPs and conflict-affected communities.

    Skills:

    • Strong program management and coordination skills.
    • Ability to analyze program data and support teams to improve service delivery.
    • Ability to work in remote and challenging humanitarian environments

    Languages: 

    • Fluency in English, Hausa and Kanuri (Kanuri is an added advantage).

    Computer / Other Tech Requirements:

    • Full professional competency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.  Add position-specific (e.g. accounting software, statistical software, etc.).
