    Laboratory Manager

    Responsibilities
    Laboratory Operations Management:

    • Supervise and coordinate all laboratory activities and workflow.
    • Ensure accurate and timely processing of laboratory tests and results.
    • Monitor laboratory turnaround time and service delivery standards.
    • Develop and implement laboratory policies, procedures, and protocols.
    • Ensure proper documentation and record keeping.

    Staff Supervision and Leadership:

    • Supervise laboratory scientists, technicians, phlebotomists, and support staff.
    • Prepare staff schedules and duty rosters.
    • Conduct staff orientation, training, and performance evaluations.
    • Promote teamwork, professionalism, and effective communication within the department.
    • Address staff concerns and disciplinary issues when necessary.

    Quality Assurance and Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, laboratory standards, and regulatory requirements.
    • Monitor quality control and quality assurance programs.
    • Ensure laboratory accreditation and licensing requirements are maintained.
    • Investigate and resolve laboratory errors, incidents, or complaints.
    • Maintain infection prevention and control standards within the laboratory.

    Equipment and Inventory Management:

    • Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and servicing of laboratory equipment.
    • Monitor inventory levels of reagents, consumables, and supplies.
    • Coordinate procurement requests and prevent stock shortages.
    • Ensure proper storage and handling of laboratory materials.

    Financial and Administrative Duties:

    • Assist in preparing departmental budgets.
    • Monitor laboratory expenses and resource utilization.
    • Prepare monthly and periodic operational reports.
    • Participate in management meetings and hospital planning activities.

    Patient Care and Service Delivery:

    • Ensure courteous and professional interaction with patients and other departments.
    • Handle complaints related to laboratory services promptly and professionally.
    • Collaborate with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support patient care.

    Qualifications and Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field.
    • Valid practicing license from the appropriate regulatory body.
    • Minimum of 5 years laboratory experience, with supervisory experience preferred.
    • Strong leadership and management skills.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Knowledge of laboratory quality management systems.
    • Proficiency in computer applications and laboratory information systems.
