We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Head of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) to lead and enhance our safety and environmental practices across all operations. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of expertise in HSE management, particularly within the maritime industry, and will play a key role in driving compliance, minimizing risk, and promoting a strong safety culture across our organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with national and international maritime HSE standards, including ISM and ISPS Codes.
Lead risk assessments and develop control measures to mitigate operational hazards.
Oversee investigations of incidents, near-misses, and accidents, and implement corrective actions.
Design and facilitate HSE training programs across all levels of the organization.
Develop and implement emergency response and preparedness plans.
Ensure strict adherence to environmental regulations concerning shipping, waste, emissions, and ballast water treatment.
Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of ships and facilities.
Submit comprehensive reports to management and regulatory authorities on safety performance.
Champion a strong, proactive safety culture throughout the company.
Monitor crew and staff health and hygiene practices both onboard and onshore.
Maintain compliance with evolving HSE legislation, codes, and standards.
Define and track HSE performance indicators and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
Manage and monitor contractor compliance with company safety protocols.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in HSE, with at least 5 years in the maritime industry.
NEBOSH certification or an equivalent recognized HSE qualification.
Strong understanding of maritime HSE regulations and international codes.
Proven experience in conducting incident investigations and safety audits.
Effective communication, training, and leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced and operationally complex environment.
Experience managing Safety Management Systems (SMS) and emergency response frameworks.
