    Head of Health, Safety and Environment

    About the Role:

    • We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Head of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) to lead and enhance our safety and environmental practices across all operations. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of expertise in HSE management, particularly within the maritime industry, and will play a key role in driving compliance, minimizing risk, and promoting a strong safety culture across our organization.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Ensure compliance with national and international maritime HSE standards, including ISM and ISPS Codes.
    • Lead risk assessments and develop control measures to mitigate operational hazards.
    • Oversee investigations of incidents, near-misses, and accidents, and implement corrective actions.
    • Design and facilitate HSE training programs across all levels of the organization.
    • Develop and implement emergency response and preparedness plans.
    • Ensure strict adherence to environmental regulations concerning shipping, waste, emissions, and ballast water treatment.
    • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of ships and facilities.
    • Submit comprehensive reports to management and regulatory authorities on safety performance.
    • Champion a strong, proactive safety culture throughout the company.
    • Monitor crew and staff health and hygiene practices both onboard and onshore.
    • Maintain compliance with evolving HSE legislation, codes, and standards.
    • Define and track HSE performance indicators and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Manage and monitor contractor compliance with company safety protocols.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
    • A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in HSE, with at least 5 years in the maritime industry.
    • NEBOSH certification or an equivalent recognized HSE qualification.
    • Strong understanding of maritime HSE regulations and international codes.
    • Proven experience in conducting incident investigations and safety audits.
    • Effective communication, training, and leadership skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced and operationally complex environment.
    • Experience managing Safety Management Systems (SMS) and emergency response frameworks.
