Main Function
The Head of Finance will provide strategic financial leadership and oversee all finance, accounting, treasury, budgeting, cost control, and financial reporting functions of the organization. The role is responsible for ensuring sound financial management, regulatory compliance, effective internal controls, and accurate financial reporting while supporting business growth and profitability. The ideal candidate must possess strong financial leadership skills and extensive experience managing finance operations within the hospitality, restaurant, or resort industry.
Role Responsibilities
Financial Strategy and Management
- Develop and implement financial strategies that support the organization\'s business objectives.
- Provide financial advice and recommendations to executive management on business decisions.
- Oversee financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Ensure the organization\'s financial resources are effectively managed and optimized.
- Drive initiatives that improve profitability and operational efficiency.
Financial Reporting and Accounting
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure accurate recording of all financial transactions in accordance with accounting standards.
- Review and approve financial reports before submission to executive management.
- Monitor general ledger activities and ensure timely account reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and statutory financial reporting requirements.
Cost Control and Revenue Management
- Oversee food, beverage, and operational cost control processes.
- Monitor revenue performance and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
- Review daily sales reports, inventory reports, and cost analyses.
- Ensure proper inventory valuation and stock accountability across departments.
- Implement financial controls to minimize wastage, fraud, and revenue leakages.
Internal Controls and Compliance
- Develop and maintain effective internal control systems.
- Ensure compliance with financial policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate internal and external audit activities and implement audit recommendations.
- Identify financial risks and establish appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Ensure proper documentation and safeguarding of company assets.
Team Leadership and Development
- Supervise and mentor finance and accounting personnel.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching to team members.
- Identify training needs and support professional development initiatives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement within the finance team.
Stakeholder and Business Support
- Work closely with operations, procurement, HR, and departmental heads to improve financial performance.
- Support management with financial analysis for business expansion and investment decisions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with banks, auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory agencies.
- Represent the finance department during management meetings and strategic planning sessions.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor\'s degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
- ICAN, ACA, ACCA, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification is required.
Experience
- Minimum of 5–10 years\' progressive experience in finance and accounting, with at least 2 years in a senior leadership role.
- Must have significant experience in the hospitality, restaurant, hotel, resort, or food service industry.
- Strong experience in financial reporting, budgeting, cost control, inventory management, and cash flow management.
- Proven experience managing finance teams and implementing effective financial controls.
