The Group Head, VAS Banking is responsible for driving the growth, profitability, and market penetration of the Bank’s commercial banking segment. This role oversees all commercial products, value-added business lines, marketplace initiatives, advertising and business development activities, and collections strategy.
The role ensures commercial customer acquisition, portfolio growth, revenue expansion, and product competitiveness, while strengthening the Bank’s presence across key commercial markets.
Develop and execute the commercial banking strategy in line with the Bank’s overall business objectives.
Drive revenue growth across commercial segments including SMEs, merchants, and mid-market businesses.
Lead expansion of the value-added services (VAS) portfolio to increase non-interest income.
Oversee marketplace strategy, partnerships, and digital commercial ecosystems.
Lead the design, enhancement, and rollout of commercial banking products.
Ensure products are competitive, customer-centric, and aligned with market needs.
Drive innovation in payments, lending, transaction banking, and digital commercial solutions.
Collaborate with Marketing to design targeted advertising campaigns that drive commercial customer acquisition.
Ensure brand messaging and market positioning align with commercial banking objectives.
Support customer engagement initiatives to strengthen retention and portfolio growth.
Oversee collections strategy for commercial accounts in collaboration with Risk and Finance.
Implement frameworks to reduce delinquencies and improve portfolio quality.
Monitor repayment patterns and recommend risk-mitigating actions.
Achieve revenue, deposit, loan, and profitability targets for the commercial banking division.
Track business performance through dashboards, market intelligence, and competitor insights.
Ensure operational excellence and adherence to regulatory guidelines.
Build and maintain strong relationships with commercial clients, ecosystem partners, and regulators.
Lead negotiations for partnerships that enhance the commercial suite (marketplace, VAS, collections, etc.).
Foster strong collaboration with Technology, CX, Credit, Risk, and Operations.
Lead, mentor, and develop the commercial banking team.
Build a high-performance culture focused on execution, customer service, and innovation.
Ensure capability development within product, sales, and partnership teams
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Banking, Economics, Social Sciences, or related field; MBA or Master's degree in related field preferred
10–12 years of experience in commercial banking, business development, or corporate/SME banking
Demonstrated experience leading high-performing sales or product teams
Experience in payments, digital banking, VAS, or marketplace ecosystems is an advantage
Strong understanding of credit, collections, compliance, and financial analysis
Proven ability to structure deals, manage large portfolios, and drive commercial strategy Experience in financial inclusion initiatives, group-lending methodologies, and cooperative finance
Strong understanding of Nigeria's VAS ecosystem, cooperative movements, an association structures.
