    Grant Compliance Manager - Borno

    Reports To:  Executive Director 
    Duration: One year subject to renewal

    Job Purpose:

    The Grants and Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of grant management and compliance for the consortium’s projects funded by Education Cannot Wait (ECW) and other donors. This role ensures that all financial and programmatic activities comply with donor regulations and organizational policies. The Grants and Compliance Manager will work closely with program staff, finance teams, and partners to facilitate effective grant management processes and ensure accountability.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Grant Management:

    • Lead the overall grants management process, including proposal development, contract negotiation, and grant disbursement.
    • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date grants management system to track grant applications, agreements, and reporting schedules.
    • Coordinate with program teams to develop detailed project budgets and work plans that align with donor requirements.

    Compliance Oversight:

    • Ensure that all grant activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and donor requirements, including financial and programmatic reporting.
    • Develop and implement compliance monitoring systems to ensure adherence to grant terms and conditions.
    • Conduct regular audits and assessments of program activities to identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions.

    Financial Management:

    • Collaborate with the finance team to develop financial reports, forecasts, and analyses related to grant expenditures.
    • Review and approve financial reports and disbursement requests to ensure accuracy and compliance with donor guidelines.
    • Provide technical assistance to program staff in financial management and reporting related to grants.

    Capacity Building:

    • Provide training and support to program staff and partners on grants management, compliance requirements, and financial accountability.
    • Develop and deliver capacity-building workshops to enhance the skills of staff and partners in managing grants and ensuring compliance.

    Reporting and Documentation:

    • Ensure timely submission of high-quality donor reports that accurately reflect project activities, achievements, and challenges.
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of grant-related activities, communications, and reports for audit purposes.
    • Prepare internal compliance reports and updates for management and stakeholders.

    Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Liaise with donors, partners, and stakeholders to facilitate effective communication and collaboration on grant-related matters.
    • Represent the organization at donor meetings and workshops, advocating for the consortium’s interests and promoting transparency.

    Risk Management:

    • Identify potential risks associated with grant management and compliance, and develop strategies to mitigate them.
    • Monitor external factors that may impact compliance and adapt strategies accordingly to ensure organizational readiness.

    Qualifications:

    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in grants management and compliance, preferably in the nonprofit or humanitarian sector.
    • Proven experience working with international donors and understanding their compliance requirements.

    • Strong knowledge of grants management processes, including proposal writing, budgeting, and financial reporting.
    • Familiarity with donor regulations and compliance requirements, including those of ECW, USAID, UN agencies, and other international donors.

    Financial Acumen:

    • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
    • Ability to interpret financial reports and provide actionable insights to program teams.

    Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

    • Excellent analytical skills to assess compliance risks and develop effective strategies to address them.
    • Ability to think critically and adapt to changing circumstances in a dynamic environment.

    Communication Skills:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and effectively.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with donors, partners, and internal teams.

    Attention to Detail:

    • High level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy in financial reporting and compliance documentation.
    • Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality in all aspects of grants management.

    Technical Proficiency:

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and grant management software.
    • Familiarity with data management and reporting tools is an advantage.
