    Gender and Disability Inclusive Specialist - Borno

    Reports To: Executive Director or Humanitarian Advisor
    Duration: One year subject to renewal

    Job Purpose:

    The Gender and Disability Inclusion Specialist is responsible for ensuring that gender equality and disability inclusion principles are effectively integrated into all program activities within the Education Cannot Wait (ECW) initiative. This role focuses on promoting inclusive educational practices that address the unique needs of girls, women, and persons with disabilities. The Specialist will work collaboratively with program staff, community members, and stakeholders to create safe and supportive educational environments that foster equity and accessibility.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Policy Development and Integration:

    • Develop and implement strategies to integrate gender and disability inclusion across all program components, ensuring alignment with national and international standards.
    • Review and adapt existing policies, guidelines, and materials to enhance gender and disability responsiveness in program activities.

    Capacity Building:

    • Design and deliver training programs and workshops for program staff, educators, and community members on gender-responsive and inclusive teaching practices.
    • Provide ongoing support and mentoring to ensure the effective implementation of gender and disability inclusion strategies.

    Monitoring and Evaluation:

    • Establish indicators and tools for monitoring gender and disability inclusion within the program, ensuring data collection reflects diverse needs and experiences.
    • Analyze program data to assess progress in achieving gender equality and disability inclusion objectives, and provide recommendations for improvement.

    Community Engagement:

    • Engage with community leaders, parents, and youth to raise awareness about the importance of gender equality and disability inclusion in education.
    • Foster partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders to promote collaborative efforts in addressing barriers faced by girls and persons with disabilities.

    Advocacy and Representation:

    • Represent the organization at relevant meetings, forums, and advocacy events to promote gender equality and disability inclusion in education.
    • Advocate for policy changes at the local and national levels that support the rights of girls and persons with disabilities in educational settings.

    Research and Knowledge Management:

    • Conduct research on best practices and emerging trends in gender and disability inclusion within education.
    • Develop knowledge-sharing platforms, resources, and materials that highlight successful strategies and approaches for inclusive education.

    Emergency Response:

    • Integrate gender and disability inclusion strategies into emergency preparedness and response plans, ensuring the needs of vulnerable populations are addressed.
    • Collaborate with program staff to develop tailored interventions during crises that prioritize gender equality and accessibility.

    Qualifications:

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Disability Studies, Law, Social Sciences, Education, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in gender equality and disability inclusion, preferably in the education or humanitarian sector.
    • Proven experience in implementing inclusive education programs and policies.

    Core Competencies:

    Expertise in Gender and Disability Inclusion:

    • Strong knowledge of gender and disability rights frameworks, policies, and best practices in education.
    • Experience in developing and implementing gender-responsive and inclusive programming.

    Training and Facilitation Skills:

    • Ability to design and deliver effective training sessions for diverse audiences on gender and disability inclusion.
    • Strong facilitation skills to promote engagement and participation in discussions on sensitive topics.

    Analytical and Reporting Skills:

    • Proficient in data collection, analysis, and interpretation related to gender and disability inclusion outcomes.
    • Ability to prepare comprehensive reports that effectively communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.

    Communication and Advocacy Skills:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to advocate for gender and disability rights effectively.
    • Experience in building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations.

    Cultural Competence:

    • Awareness of and respect for cultural differences and local contexts in relation to gender and disability issues.
    • Ability to adapt strategies to align with local customs and practices while promoting inclusion and equality.

    Technical Proficiency:

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data management tools.
    • Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation methodologies related to gender and disability inclusion.
