    Financial Controller

Our client is a leader in the hospitality industry with a passion for quality, honesty and excellence. They are seeking to recruit a Financial Controller.

Reporting to: General Manager / Board of Directors

    Role Purpose

The Financial Controller is the senior financial lead responsible for the fiscal integrity and operational efficiency of the hotel. This is a \"hands-on\" leadership role that goes beyond the back office; you will be expected to master the numbers while actively partnering with operations to plug revenue leakages, control costs, and ensure the hotel meets its GOP (Gross Operating Profit) targets.

    Key Responsibilities

    Financial Stewardship & Reporting

    • The Monthly Close: Manage the full month-end and year-end accounting cycle within strict corporate deadlines.
    • Reporting: Prepare and interpret the P&L (Departmental & Overall), Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow statements.
    • Variance Analysis: Provide detailed Budget vs. Actual reports, explaining variances and recommending corrective actions to the GM.
    • Audit Management: Act as the primary liaison for internal and external auditors; maintain \"audit-ready\" files year-round.

    Operational & Cost Control

    • Revenue Integrity: Supervise the Income Audit function to ensure all rooms and F&B revenue is captured accurately.
    • F&B Control: Monitor food and beverage cost percentages, analyze waste/variance, and support the Executive Chef with menu engineering.
    • Inventory: Oversee stock/store audits and conduct regular spot checks in high-risk areas (bars, kitchens, and storage).
    • Payroll & CAPEX: Implement strict payroll controls and monitor Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) to ensure projects stay within budget.

    Compliance & Internal Controls

    • Tax Compliance: Ensure timely and accurate filing of all Nigerian statutory requirements (VAT, WHT, PAYE, Pension).
    • SOP Enforcement: Establish and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to prevent fraud and financial mismanagement.

    Candidate Requirements

    Educational & Professional Qualifications

    • Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
    • Professional Certification (Mandatory): Must hold at least one: ICAN (Preferred), ACCA, ACA, or CPA.
    • Preferred: MBA or MSc in Finance; specialized Hospitality Finance certifications are a strong advantage.

    Experience & Systems Mastery

    • Experience: 5–7 years in accounting, with at least 3 years in Hospitality Finance and 2 years in a management/supervisory role.
    • Systems Knowledge:
      • PMS: Expertise in Opera or similar Property Management Systems.
      • POS: Micros or Symphony.
      • Accounting: SUN Systems, Sage, or Materials Control (MC).
      • Office: Advanced Excel skills (Data analysis, complex formulas, and reporting).

    Competency Profile

    Technical Expertise

    • Night Audit Review: Ability to spot errors in daily reconciliations.
    • Cash Flow Management: Proactive monitoring of liquidity.
    • Internal Audit: Expertise in identifying and closing leakages.

    Behavioural Traits

    • Operational Presence: Willingness to be \"on the floor\" (Kitchens/Front Desk).
    • Professional Courage: Ability to challenge department heads on spending.
    • Resilience: Remaining calm and focused under intense audit pressure.

Key Performance Expectations (First 90 Days)

    • Month 1: Standardize the month-end closing process and verify the accuracy of daily revenue reporting.
    • Month 2: Conduct a full review of F&B cost percentages and implement stricter store/inventory controls.
    • Month 3: Clean up the balance sheet, fix identified revenue leakages and provide the GM with a 12-month financial roadmap.

Salary: Attractive Salary depending on your experience

Note: ONLY candidates with the required experience will be considered.
