    Environmental and Social Executive (ESG)

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    • The E&S Executive's primary role is to assess and manage the environmental and social risks and impacts of the company in the construction and operations phases, development and implementation of the Environmental and Social Management System and implement the company’s Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP).Scope of Work.
    • Identify and develop E&S KPIs to be monitored at company level.
    • Work with Human Resources to ensure alignment of HR policies with company E&S Reference Framework, including ILO Conventions.
    • Ensure adequate stakeholder engagement (internal and external), including regulatory agencies, customers, communities, liaising with investors and reporting on ESG performance as per agreed reporting frequency.
    • Contribute to the delivery of E&S training for all, and recommend external training requirements where necessary
    • Periodically review and update the company’s ESMS, considering corrective actions, industry trends, international best practices, and investor requirements.
    • Identify E&S value add opportunities beyond ESG compliances and risk mitigation e.g., by contributing to long term development impact and sustainability
    • Work on ad hoc projects. For instance, external communications on E&S, such as an annual E&S report and case studies highlighting E&S value addition.

    SKILLS/ REQUIREMENTS:

    • Minimum University degree or Masters or equivalent in a relevant discipline, preferably environmental engineering, environmental or social studies; development studies / development finance; or a similar area.
    • At least three years’ work experience in a related field (relevant sector, E&S and / or sustainability etc), preferably within the retail, FMCG or E&S consulting.
    • Experience working with IFC’s Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability and other E&S/sustainability reference frameworks.
    • Knowledge of E&S issues in the retail or FMCG sector – Required.Insight into the challenges associated with the implementation of E&S improvements in an SME – Required.
    • Familiarity with the application of the IFC Performance Standards – Required.
    • ISO 14001:2015 – Certification in Environmental Management Systems - Required
    • Strong communication skills, including report writing (use of PowerPoint and diagrams to present information in a concise format) and oral communication.
    • Effective negotiation skills, including the ability to be persuasive as well as to listen and pragmatically identify when compromise is required.
    • Highly motivated and results driven.
