    Education Officer - Roster

    Job Summary

    JRS is currently looking for skilled and experienced Education officers to be included in a talent pool of candidates for the various locations within which JRS serves. Under the direct supervision of the Project Director.

    The Education Officer plays a key role in project startup, monitoring the implementation of project activities, data analysis and reporting, staff capacity building, and supporting project research needs, recruitment of volunteers, etc. The Education Officer will work with Project Director to ensure EiE activities are carried out according to proposals, donor requirements and measure the progress, quality and impact of project implementation. S/he will be responsible for the direct implementation of project activities in the selected Local Government Areas (LGAs).

    Key Responsibilities of the position

    Role/Mission

    • Lead in planning and implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting activities related to education programming focused on improving children’s learning outcomes (literacy, Numeracy and life skills) and development using evidence- based approaches.
    • Supports the establishment, strengthening and training of the school-based management committees.
    • Lead in the development of teacher training contents (in pedagogy, inclusive education, child protection, PSS, PSEAH, etc) to improve teachers teaching skills.
    • Play a key role in the mobilization and engagement of the community and stakeholders in the implementation and monitoring of the project.
    • Routine visits to project schools for data collection and school profiling in collaboration with the M&E team.
    • Contribute to resource mobilization through updating JRS through the Project Director by providing updates on the needs in the communities and provide lessons learnt and feedback to improve project quality and implementation.
    • Identify and communicate any issues that are delaying project implementation in a timely manner.
    • Lead in the implementation of, and represent Jesuit Refugee Service in, emergency education coordination mechanisms including any relevant cluster meetings.
    • Ensure regular monitoring of project activities in project schools and follow up in implementation of planned tasks, activities and agreed actions in the work plans.
    • Create and sustain positive working relationships with staff, partners and key stakeholders at all level (community, LGEA, State, etc) to ensure coordination of project activities.
    • Under the guidance of the Project Director, he/she will ensure that Education Intervention is implemented in a coordinated, harmonized and aligned manner, in line with donor requirements and commitments.
    • The Education Officer will be responsible for sharing the progress reports and updates on a timely manner from the field.
    • Promote PSEA and safeguarding standards within JRS and amongst the beneficiaries it serves.
    • Oversee the work of Education Assistants, identify capacity building needs and provide technical and administrative support and mentoring as needed.
    • Develop and apply workplans, procurement plans and spending plans to ensure on time implementation of project activities.
    • Contribute to monthly, quarterly and annual internal and external reports.
    • Supervise the collection of data including baseline.
    • Ensure that all necessary documents and means of verification for all activities are captured and stored electronically.
    • Oversee recruitment of volunteers in coordination with Human Resources and Education Assistants as well oversee the procurement processes with Procurement units and follow up as necessary.
    • Represent JRS to government authorities and ensure that all project activities are done in coordination with the government
    • Engage and coordinate with government authorities, communities, community leaders, parent groups, school management and other organizations implementing education activities including the Education in Emergencies Working Group and implementing partners.
    • Ensure effective coordination with JRS programme units.
    • Supervise and submit needs assessment, data collection and submission and collection of documentation and verification of project activities.
    • Promote inclusion and equal access to education for every child, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable and at-risk children.
    • Any other task relevant to the position as requested by the line and/or technical manager.

    Required Profile

    Qualification

    University Degree or equivalent in Education, Social Sciences, or related field

    Experience and Skills

    • Good knowledge of MS office.
    • Minimum of 5 years relevant working experience with INGO in the Northeast.
    • Experience working with IDPs, refugees and other vulnerable populations (ideal)
    • Good analytical and reporting skills.
    • Ability to work in stressful locations.
    • Traceable references of previous employers.
    • Understanding of the education context and humanitarian and development response in the Northeast.
    • Experience with nonformal, working with Tsangaya and Islamiyya schools on mainstreaming Out of School Children (OOSC) and support to formal education preferred.
    • Good knowledge and understanding of DO NO HARM principles and established international child protection standards.
    • Strong ability to work independently, organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to details.
    • Experience working in emergency settings (deep field), particularly in Northeast Nigeria.
    • Hausa and/or additional local language skills are required.
