    Edocrinology Physician

    Job Purpose

    • The Endocrinology Physician will serve as a senior medical expert, delivering world-class, patient-centered care for adults with a wide spectrum of endocrine, metabolic, and related general medical conditions.
    • The role holder will be responsible for the strategic development and clinical delivery of endocrinology services, ensuring diagnostic accuracy, treatment excellence, and optimal patient outcomes. 

    Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities
    Clinical Care and Patient Management:

    • Provide comprehensive care for a diverse patient population, encompassing both inpatient and outpatient services, for conditions such as diabetes mellitus, thyroid disorders, pituitary and adrenal diseases, metabolic bone diseases, obesity, and lipid disorders.
    • Perform, interpret, and lead on the use of advanced diagnostic tests and procedures relevant to endocrinology, ensuring timely and accurate diagnosis.
    • Develop, implement, and rigorously monitor evidence-based, individualized treatment plans, ensuring the highest standards of clinical practice and patient safety.
    • Act as the primary expert consultant for colleagues across all specialties on complex endocrine and metabolic aspects of patient care, providing authoritative guidance and second opinions.

    Multidisciplinary Collaboration:

    • Work collaboratively as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team, partnering with dieticians, diabetes nurse educators, surgeons, ophthalmologists, cardiologists, and other specialists to provide fully integrated, holistic patient care.
    • Lead or actively participate in multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings, facilitating discussions on complex cases to formulate consensus-driven, comprehensive management strategies.

    Quality Assurance and Clinical Governance

    •  Adhere to, promote, and contribute to the ongoing development of hospital policies, clinical guidelines, and protocols to ensure best practice.
    • Lead and participate in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, and risk management activities to continuously enhance patient safety, service delivery, and clinical effectiveness.
    • Ensure full compliance with all applicable national and international regulatory and accreditation standards, championing a culture of transparency and accountability.

     

    Education, Training, and Research:

    • Provide formal and informal teaching, training, supervision, and mentorship to medical officers, residents, interns, and other healthcare professionals.
    • Actively contribute to the department's educational programme by leading grand rounds, seminars, workshops, and journal clubs.
    • Engage in and promote clinical research activities, with the aim of advancing the field of endocrinology, improving patient outcomes, and enhancing the hospital’s academic reputation

    Administrative Duties:

    • Participate in the strategic development and implementation of service strategies, new clinical programmes, and business plans within the department.
    • Ensure the accurate, legible, and timely completion of all clinical records and documentation, adhering to legal and professional standards. 

    Must have skills

    • Endocrinology

    Qualifications

    • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
    • Fellowship or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology from a recognized international board.
    • Possession of a valid medical license to practice or eligibility for licensing in Nigeria
    • A minimum of 5 years of substantive experience post-qualification in Internal Medicine, with a significant, demonstrable focus on Endocrinology.
    • Proven track record of excellence in managing a broad and complex range of endocrine and metabolic disorders in a tertiary care setting.
    • Demonstrable experience in the teaching, supervision, and mentorship of junior medical staff and other healthcare trainees.
    • Experience in clinical research is mandatory, with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and successful research projects being highly desirable.
    • Prior experience in a JCI-accredited or equivalent international healthcare environment is preferred.
