    Driver

    Reports To: Country Director

    Employment Type: Full-Time (12 months)

    The Opportunity

    For the next 12 months, GPON with funding support from ECW-SCI, will be implementing an Education in Emergencies project in Zamfara and Kastina states, focusing on improving education in emergencies and protection outcomes for IDPs that involves timely and responsive protection monitoring, capacity building for government, education mainstreaming and stakeholders, awareness-raising on SGBV, case management, and child protection. 

    The intervention aims to guarantee that all individuals-men, women, boys, and girls, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) and persons with disabilities-receive life-saving integrated responses, ensuring their safety within their communities and timely support in case of harm. GPON will deliver comprehensive services encompassing education in emergencies, child protection, gender-based violence (GBV), and protection coordination, advocacy, and information for the affected populations under First Emergency Response to the Displaced Population in Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina States, Northwest Nigeria funded by Education Cannot Wait and jointly implemented under consortium led by SCI.     Job Overview/Summary

    We are seeking a reliable and responsible Personal Driver for the Country Director. This role involves providing safe and timely transportation for the Country Director, ensuring a smooth travel experience, and maintaining the vehicle in excellent condition. The ideal candidate will be highly professional, punctual, and have a thorough knowledge of local routes and traffic regulations.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Driving Services: Provide safe and punctual driving services for the Country Director for official meetings, events, and other work-related travel.
    • Vehicle Maintenance: Regularly inspect and maintain the assigned vehicle, ensuring it is clean, well-fueled, and in optimal working condition at all times. Report any maintenance needs or repairs immediately.
    • Route Planning: Plan optimal routes to avoid traffic delays and ensure timely arrivals. Stay informed of local traffic patterns, construction zones, and any security issues.
    • Safety Compliance: Follow all traffic laws, driving regulations, and organizational policies to ensure the Country Director\'s safety during transit.
    • Confidentiality: Maintain discretion and confidentiality with all information related to the Country Director’s activities, routes, and discussions.
    • Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of all trips, including fuel consumption, mileage, and any incidents or delays.
    • Other Duties: Support the Country Director with additional duties as assigned, including occasional assistance with errands or package deliveries.

    Experience and technical competencies:  

    • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a personal or professional driver, preferably for executive-level positions.
    • Thorough knowledge of local roads, routes, and traffic patterns.
    • Basic vehicle maintenance skills and the ability to perform minor repairs as needed.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, with a professional and courteous demeanor.
    • Excellent time management skills, punctuality, and reliability.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion.
    • Previous experience as a driver in an international organization or NGO setting.
    • Basic first aid knowledge.
    • Ability to communicate in English and Hausa.

    Salary and conditions: The income will be subject to statutory deductions as per applicable Nigeria laws. The employee is responsible for the tax returns.
