Business Reporter at The International Center for Investigative Reporting (ICIR)

Job Description

• We are looking for a Business Reporter who understands the Nigerian economy, capital markets and the maritime sector.
• You will play a crucial role in delivering accurate, insightful, and timely news related to the financial world, markets, corporations, and economic trends.

Responsibilities

• Your responsibilities will involve researching, investigating, and reporting on various aspects of business and finance for a diverse audience, ranging from industry professionals to the general public
• You will be responsible for gathering and verifying factual information regarding news stories through conducting interviews and observations on news events promptly and accurately
• Build and maintain relationships with key sources such as public officials, administrators, researchers, organizers, public information officers, and other newsmakers.
• Produce and deliver content for various platforms, including broadcast, web, and social media.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the editorial team lead

Requirements:

• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in journalism, communications, business, economics, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of proven experience in a similar role, with a focus on business reporting
• Strong understanding of business and financial concepts.
• Familiarity with economic/ market trends and dynamics, and the ability to analyse and interpret financial data.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent writing, long- form reporting and communication skills.
• Proficiency in using technology and data tools to work.
