    Accountant

    Job Description

    • We are seeking an experienced Accountant to manage the Accounting functions of its related cooperative- Volition Coop.
    • The Accountant must be well versed in all aspects of Accounting including (but not limited to) preparation of financial statements, general ledger accounting, bank reconciliations, journal entries and adjustments, maintenance of asset registers etc.
    • The Accountant will interface with external audit & tax firms, staff from other departments and regulatory agencies.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Preparation of financial reports such as financial statements including cashflow statements and budget performance
    • Ensure compliance with applicable standards (i.e. IFRS, GAAP, FASB), rules, regulations, and systems of internal control.
    • Aid in the implementation of new accounting policies, standards, and guidelines
    • Provide accurate, timely, and relevant recording, reporting, and analysis of financial information
    • Monthly and annual bank reconciliations
    • Accurate and timely management of the month-end close process
    • Identify areas for improvement and implement improvements to processes
    • Assist with and act as the primary point-of-contact for auditor requests
    • Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
    • Create and analyze liability, asset, and capital accounts by compiling electronic data and required documentation
    • Summarize and prepare financial status and transactions reports, including a profit and loss statement, and other necessary reports
    • Comply with all federal, state, and local protocols including legal requirements, and interpret new and existing legislation
    • Create and oversee implementation of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) manual for accounting policy and regulations, and roll out reconciliation procedures
    • Focus on tax compliance, state business registration, contract review, and tax filing
    • Play a vital part in the company's financial management which includes all account reconciliations and reporting to necessary parties
    • Work with other staff by answering questions and coordinating information for input into financial reports

    Qualifications, Skill Sets and Values

    • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
    • 2 - 3 years of Accounting / Finance experience with Big 4 Accounting firm is a strong advantage
    • Must be a Chartered Accountant or close to qualification
    • Demonstrable understanding of IFRS; DipIFRS is a strong advantage
    • Demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills and knowledge of Excel, as well as other Microsoft Office applications
    • Thorough knowledge of general ledger accounting, account reconciliation, journal adjustments, preparation of all financial statements and financial reporting
    • Knowledge of risk management and process control frameworks is a strong advantage
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Must be able to think critically and work independently
    • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively across the organization
    • Highly detail-oriented
    • Experience working with accounting software
    • Working knowledge of tax filing and tax compliance as it pertains to state and federal level regulations
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a leadership role and lead teams
    • Must be an outstanding communicator, and have established skills in accuracy, organization, and working in a high-volume environment
    • Demonstrated ability to support all other departments within the company and coordinate training and information sessions
