Scope of the Vacancy
- The BSFP (Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program) Storekeeper will be responsible for the implementation of WFP-funded BSFP interventions in Yobe state (Bade, Damaturu, Jakusko and Potiskum) focusing on programme support activities.
- He/She will ensure proper reception, storage, stock management, transport arrangements and distribution of Specialized Nutritious Foods (SNF) assets, the respect of the relevant Foods Management’s guidelines and he/she will also ensure the security of the storage sites with the support from community leaders.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
- Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and other collaborators of the projects, He/She will take complete responsibility for the receipt, storage, accounting and reporting of all commodities received and stored in the warehouse(s).
Planning:
- Assess availability of space and prepare stacking/storage plans prior to commodities arrivals;
- Provide technical advice to the appropriate manager on storage needs and options. Identify alternate warehouse facilities as contingency for emergency or unforeseen reasons;
- Prepare loading plans and ensure that standard waybills are duly filled for outgoing stock.
- Liaise with field monitors and others on matters pertaining to logistics;
Warehouse Management:
- Manage the security of the premises in collaboration with the landlord, the vigilantes and the COOPI Security Focal Point;
- Supervise the offloading and stacking of all food commodities received from WFP;
- Control incoming goods by such methods as physical counts, random weight checks, rejection of any spoiled commodity, etc;
- Ensure that all receipts of food and non-food items are properly documented, including any damages or shortages. Make periodic random checks during loading/unloading operations to ensure that commodities by the trucks confirm to the quantity record on the truck waybill;
- Sign waybills of received and dispatched cargo;
- Report on the quality, quantity of the received commodities to the Project Manager and ensure that quantities dispatched as per consignor’s documents match with quantities received and endorse documents;
- Maintain clean and pest-free storing conditions. When necessary, arrange fumigation of infested stocks and inspection certification of damaged cargo, ensuring good warehousing practices;
- Lead the process of re-packing of pallets in preparation for their distribution to the various Final Distribution Points (FDPs);
- Maintain records of the food stuff offloaded/loaded at the warehouses, in adherence to COOPI Procedures;
- Keep updated records on stack cards, and/or computer inventory lists;
- Deliver goods on request against official and approved documentation;
- Report on and, in consultation with others, take appropriate action for the disposal of spoilt commodities;
- Report any problems in a timely manner to the Logistician and the Project Manager;
Management of Commodity Dispatches:
- Dispatch food commodities based approved commodity dispatch authorization.
- Ensure all documents for commodity dispatch have been correctly and completely filled.
- Inspect all trucks to be loaded with food to ensure that they are road worthy before commencing loading.
- Inspect trucks loaded with food to ensure that they are properly covered with tarpaulins before leaving the warehouse.
- Complete and hand over the approved commodity delivery documents to the driver before the truck leaves the warehouse i.e. dispatch waybill and truck inspection reports.
- Notify COOPI Staff at Final Distribution Points (FDPs) about the particulars of the truck and consignment loaded as soon as the truck leaves the warehouse.
Capacity building of loading and offloading staff:
- Train and supervise the Tally Clerks;
- Work with the Project Manager and provide training for the Distribution Assistants, the loading and offloading staff on how to stack, handle commodities, first aid and evacuation procedures.

Profile of the Candidate (Education, Training, Competences, Skills)
Minimum Requirements:
- Good English writing and speaking skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and good command of e-mails
- Knowledge of warehousing, transport, shipping and practical freight forwarding
- Willingness to relocate to remote areas of North-East Nigeria and to work under basic conditions
Desired Competencies / Skills
Essential:
- Logistics training and/or experience in warehouse management;
- Minimum 2 years of practical, hands-on warehouse management experience, including storage and transport of perishable goods and preferable understanding of cold chain with a minimum of 1 year experience in emergency response or humanitarian relief context (though experience in a development context is also highly regarded);
- Good command of English. Knowledge of Hausa or Kanuri is highly desirable;
- Excellent mathematical skills and attention to detail;
- Able to work in harsh, unstable and difficult conditions, independently and in a team;
- Strong cross-cultural communication and resilience skills;
- Experience in supervising and mentoring other staff;
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relations with people of different cultural backgrounds and languages.
Preferred:
- Past experience preferable with a busy NGO or UN agency, in food commodities handling tracking and accounting.
- Prior experience with UN WFP RITA system or similar software.
- Knowledge of WFP regulations pertaining to relief food commodities tracking accounting and reporting.
- This position requires a person who is self-starter, who can accomplish the task with minimal or no supervision. He/she should be able to manage a team of staff as well as cooperate with other units. He/she must be keen on details and well organized individual.
