    Rigging Superintendent

    Purpose

    Manages and coordinates the activities of personnel engaged in rigging, movement, lifting, skidding and erecting operations and the operation of cranes, forklifts and other machinery and equipment involved. Applying the most cost effective rigging/lifting plans and lead the execution of those plans in accordance with Company Work in conjunction with Project Management Team and assist in the construction effort in /Client procedures and operating standards.

    Key aims and objectives

    • Ensure all rigging and lifting activities comply with HSEQ manual and applicable regulations
    • Ensure that lifting equipment and personnel are planned and set up to execute lifting activities in accordance with project schedules

    Prime Responsibilities and Duties

    • Ensure the safe and efficient deployment of all assigned personnel and equipment
    • Provide direction and make decisions in pursuit of the project goals and objectives
    • Seek guidance from Rigging Manager, Construction Manager or others as necessary before making critical decisions
    • Work with other projects’ personnel to ensure the most efficient use of equipment across the facility
    • Ensure all personnel have been competency assessed and hold the necessary skill levels and knowledge to perform tasks assigned
    • Ensure all equipment and machinery being used is functioning properly and has the required certification and colour coding in place
    • Ensure the safe use and operation of all manner of lifting, pulling, skidding and hoisting equipment
    • Ensure work areas are maintained in a clean and orderly manner
    • Identify, stop and immediately correct unsafe acts or conditions
    • Ensure plant and equipment is made available for scheduled inspection and maintenance
    • Forecast tools and equipment requirements for the scope of work being undertaken
    • Report equipment faults and breakdowns verbally and formally to the maintenance department
    • Assist and advise in the preparation of construction methods and lifting plans
    • Prepare Task Risk Assessments as required
    • Lead Toolbox Talks
    • Give clear and concise instructions to team members and follow up to ensure safe and timely execution
    • Hold members of the rigging team accountable for work performance as per their roles and responsibilities
    • Contribute to the Continuous Improvement Process within the operation of the rigging department
    • Monitor productivity and schedule performance and be pro-active in investigating the reasons for poor performance and implementing corrective measures
    • Demonstrate good planning and organisation in day to day activities
    • Set professional standards of behavior

    Other Duties

    • Contribute to overall construction plans by considering efficient and effective methods of executing the work
    • Attend meetings as required, on time and prepared
    • Share the workload of other rigging superintendents during leave rotations
    • Mentor, train and assess Nigerian national personnel under his/her control
    • Listen to and evaluate any employee concerns

    • Rigging Manager and other rigging superintendents
    • Construction Managers and other discipline superintendents
    • Equipment repair and maintenance manager
    • HSEQ managers
    • Training Department

    Key External Interfaces

    • Client’s representatives as required
    • External auditors as required

    The Person

    • Minimum of 10-12 years rigging and lifting experience in the oil and gas construction (or other relevant) industry
    • Time-served apprenticeship as a rigger in a fabrication yard with the minimum of a recognised trades or craft qualification or equivalent Diploma Conversant with LOLER and PUWER regulations and other international codes and specifications applicable to rigging and lifting Extensive knowledge of rigging activities required during the fabrication of offshore structures (jackets, piles, bridges, modules, topsides, flare towers, etc.) and have the ability to safely execute roll-ups, flip-overs, deck stacking, and all other day to day rigging and lifting activities
    • Ability to demonstrate a complete understanding and show commitment to the importance of HSE and Quality in the day to day activities in a fabrication facility Conversant with the upkeep of inspections and certification records of lifting equipment Ability to mentor and train others
