    Fisheries and Aquaculture Officer

    Description:

    Job Summary

    The Fisheries and Aquaculture officer would provide coordination and supervision for all the project fisheries and aquaculture activities, under the direct supervision of the Livelihood Field Coordinator, implement and monitor all related activities, following WFP and DHCBI recommendations, procedures, schedules and deadlines. Also Pre and Post Activities Monitoring as well as other monitoring and evaluation activities and responsibly for training of beneficiaries on good practice and capacity building etc

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    • Promotion of sound strategies and plans for sustainable management of small-scale fisheries in livelihoods and wealth creation.
    • Promote knowledge and awareness on appropriate fisheries management approaches among beneficiaries.
    • Develop appropriate models for strengthening aquaculture extension services and business development of beneficiaries;
    • Develop strategies for capacity strengthening in fishing and fish farming communities for resilience to climate change and other natural disasters.
    • Undertakes outreach activities, conducts training and workshops
    • Ensures the collection and documentation of lessons learned as well as contributes to the management of knowledge;
    • Performs other related duties as required.

    Position Requirements

    Education

    University Bachelor Degree in Fisheries, Aquaculture or Related Aquatic Science Subjects

    Professional experience

    • Minimum 5 years of experience;
    • Experience in working in complex and volatile contexts;
    • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities;
    • Experience in leadership and problem solving;

    Languages:

    Fluency in English both written and oral and Hausa and Kanuri language.

    Personal requirements:

    • Ability to put up with job pressure;
    • Ability to deliver high quality work within tight deadlines;
    • Strong negotiation skills.

    Computer/Other Technical Requirements:

        Full professional competency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
