Job Description

• To plan, coordinate, schedule, oversee installation and provide maintenance support of electrical distribution systems      

Responsibilities

•  Plans and oversees all activities relating to the operation, construction and maintenance of substations
• Develops and maintains design standards, material and equipment specifications, construction standards, and engineering practices for substations, supporting the delivery and maintenance of cost effective and high-quality substation assets
• Assesses engineering work processes and methods, designs, materials and equipment procurement, and construction services for efficient substation services
• Prepares new and modifies existing relay drawings including relay panel arrangements, single lines, three lines, station service AC/DC distribution diagram, AC schematics, DC elementary, equipment wiring, and relay panel wiring
• Provides technical expertise, direction and leadership for substation maintenance technicians to ensure the safety and reliability of the electric system
• Monitors technical aspects of the manufacture, installation, utilization, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment to ensure satisfactory performance and compliance with specifications and regulations
• Coordinates periodic inspections, solves or recommends solutions to substation engineering problems, such as the adequacy of system protection, including relaying, control, and protective apparatus; system analyses involving performance, costs, characteristics of equipment, loads, energy flows, losses, etc.
• Evaluates and analyses distribution facilities and prepares reports on deficiencies, recommend upgrades, modifications and improvements

Qualifications and Requirements

• Deep understanding of principles and practices of power distribution operations
• Deep understanding of principles and practices of safety management
• Good knowledge of regulations and statutory requirements guiding substation systems
• Thorough knowledge of all types of electrical equipment, installation procedures, and maintenance
• Broad experience with wide variety of electrical apparatus used in power industry, such as transformers, breakers, switchgear
• Sound knowledge of protection and control schemes including the preparation of schematics and wiring diagrams
• Ability to apply technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems
• Good report writing, verbal  and oral communication skills
• Good project management skills
• Good contract management skills (management of outsourced labor)
• Bachelor's degree with 15 years work experience
