    Child Protection in Emergency Officer

    Key responsibilities and tasks:

    • Supervision of psychosocial support activities for children, adolescents and caregivers living in Borno State areas
    • Prepare weekly activity report and work plans, compile the monthly technical narrative reports and share with the Project manager and Donor/Partners
    • Conduct advocacy visits and organize awareness meetings within IDP camps and host communities in Borno State, especially new response locations
    • Conduct Child Safeguarding and GEPaDC code of conduct training for new employees and volunteers
    • Work with case workers, CFS facilitators, community volunteers, animators and other community structures to identify gaps / challenges in service delivery and coordinate with relevant actors to ensure that safe and confidential services are made available and accessible to vulnerable children
    • Conduct weekly Case management meetings with all case workers, providing technical advice on cases and psychosocial support to caseworkers
    • Conduct regular supervision of project locations and support individual case where required and review staff caseloads to ensure they are manageable and share challenges with project manager
    • Monitor timescales for response decision making, placement, follow up and review
    • Conduct regular case file audit and check that protocols and principles are respected
    • Support and mentor the CFC animators, community volunteers and Child Protection Committees to provide psychosocial first aid to children in need and their care givers.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the CP project manager, or protection coordinator.
    • Liaise with the community members for the identification of available spaces to conduct CFS activities
    • Under the supervision of the line manager the post holder will support CFS facilitators to design an array of age and gender appropriate psychosocial interventions for children, adolescents and caregivers using existing tools and guidelines, including materials produced by the verified and reputable sources such as UNICEF, IASC, CPWG and others
    • Conduct technical follow-up sessions to provide and receive feedbacks, share impressions aiming at improving quality and effectiveness of interventions
    • Seek the support of the Case Management officer to train CFS workers (facilitators and animators) on basic concepts of case management in order to timely refer cases of individuals at risk or affected by protection concerns
    • Contribute to the elaboration of any technical tools or documents such as CPMS, Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Policy, and JD where need be.
    • Submit purchase requests and other logistics documents according to procedure and authorization level
    • Ensure regular communication with the line manager about updates, achievements and challenges through meetings, reports and ad hoc communication upon request and needs

    HR management

    • Provide appropriate training, mentoring, coaching and capacity building of the team under her/his responsibility
    • Organize team meetings and provide weekly program update and staff planning
    • Follow up staff attendances and grant staff leaves with HR consent.
    • Ensure regular feedback to the staff under her/his responsibility and appraisal process when needed and facilitate good communication within the teams under his/her responsibility
    • Support disciplinary measures application if needed

    Project manager, coordinator

    • Promote, and ensure project activities are in line with child protection principles and humanitarian principles
    • Ensure the project activities are well-integrated into the Northeastern Nigeria child protection system and humanitarian coordination practices and guidelines
    • Ensure GEPaDC Child Safeguarding Policy and Child Protection Minimum Standards are mainstreamed through all the programmatic activities
    • Report cases of abuse committed against children to the Child Protection Project Manager and coordinator. Strict confidentiality must be respected.

    Coordination and representation

    • Work in close collaboration with GEPaDC partners and other key actors
    • Coordinates with other GEPaDC sectors to ensure implementation of standardized activities
    • Participate in fora and meetings held at site level in her/his field of expertise, when relevant and necessary

    Security

    • Comply with GEPaDC Security Regulations
    • Contribute to updating the security plan on his/her area(s) of intervention

    Other

    • Fully comply with GEPaDC Code of Conduct and ensure Child Safeguarding Policy is upheld at all times
    • Ensure adherence to GEPaDC standards and quality requirements in all the project activities.
    • Adhere to and ensure the team under her/his responsibility follows GEPaDC administrative and logistical regulations and procedures
