    Head of Engineering, Rewards

    About The Role

    • Rewards is one of the most strategically important platforms at Moniepoint, and it is being built into a dedicated charter with its own engineering and product leadership.
    • The platform sits at the centre of our retention strategy across a user base of approximately 23 million people.
    • Today the platform does one thing: cashback.
    • It works, but it has barely scratched the surface of what rewards can be, and the cashback product itself is not yet built to the depth it deserves.
    • The ambition is to evolve it into a full rewards, retention, engagement and personalisation platform — and to do that across the full 360 degrees of our network.
    • That means rewards for our business customers, rewards for our consumer customers, and rewards for the sales agents who drive our distribution.
    • Very few companies get to design this from close to a blank page at this scale.
    • The Head of Engineering owns that platform end to end.
    • You will inherit a team of nine engineers, including an Engineering Manager, and build the organisation out from there — the current expectation is a minimum of three product units and upwards of 25 people, though the eventual shape is genuinely yours to define.
    • Your first objective is to get the best possible performance out of the cashback product we already have.
    • From there, you will work with Growth, Sales and Marketing to determine what we build for acquisition and retention, and roll it out across every customer we serve.
    • This is a consumer-facing product engineering role, and that is the most important thing to understand about it.
    • Rewards is won or lost on experimentation, personalisation, and the quality of the experience in a customer's hands.
    • We are looking for a leader who has built and shipped direct-to-consumer products at scale, who is fluent in experimentation and A/B testing, and who has real depth in front-end and mobile engineering — not a purely backend platform leader.
    • Moniepoint runs a Domain CTO model.
    • We view our Heads of Engineering as the CTO of their domain: you own the technical roadmap, the architecture, the delivery, and the organisation beneath you.
    • You will have full autonomy over engineering strategy, architecture, hiring, operating cadence and roadmap trade-offs.
    • You will report functionally to our Group CTO, with a dual reporting line into the Product leader for Rewards.
    • That second line is a delivery relationship rather than a seniority one — engineering and product are peers here, and you will build the team to full capacity together.
    • Your responsibilities as Head of Engineering, Rewards includes:
    • Owning the technical strategy, architecture and roadmap for the Rewards Platform end to end.
    • Improving the performance, reliability and depth of the existing cashback product as an immediate first priority.
    • Evolving cashback into a broader rewards, retention, engagement and personalisation platform serving business customers, consumer customers and sales agents.
    • Building the engineering organisation from its current base - structuring product units, hiring engineers and Engineering Managers, and leading through those managers as the team scales.
    • Establishing a strong experimentation culture: A/B testing, cohort analysis, and measurement that lets the team learn quickly what actually changes customer behaviour.
    • Working closely with Growth, Sales and Marketing to translate acquisition and retention objectives into product and engineering initiatives.
    • Owning the customer-facing experience of rewards across mobile and web, including how quickly and reliably customers receive what they have earned.
    • Define architecture standards, engineering processes and quality metrics, and own the engineering health of the domain — incidents, production defects, deployment frequency, change failure rate, and developer experience.
    • Build the platform to serve customers across multiple geographies as Moniepoint expands.
    • Partner with Product to define the rewards-specific metrics and OKRs that do not yet exist, and hold the team to them.

    Who You Are

    • Direct-to-consumer product engineering at scale. You have built and shipped products used directly by large consumer audiences, and you understand what moves engagement and retention. This is the defining requirement of the role.
    • Genuine front-end and mobile depth. You have led or personally built consumer-facing mobile and web experiences. A backend-only background, however strong, is not what this role needs.
    • Experimentation and growth engineering. Hands-on experience running A/B tests, feature flagging, and measurement frameworks, and using the results to drive product decisions rather than to justify them.
    • At least 5 years of experience managing managers — leading an engineering organisation through other engineering leaders, not a single team.
    • Hands-on technical leadership. You are still close to the code. We expect a meaningful proportion of hands-on engineering time and technical credibility with the engineers you lead.
    • 10+ years of overall software engineering experience, with at least 5 years leading engineering teams through growth phases.
    • Comfort with our backend environment — Java and Spring Boot — and the ability to lead backend engineers credibly, even if it is not where your own depth sits.
    • Experience building and scaling an engineering organisation from a small base, including hiring and developing Engineering Managers.
    • Strong collaboration with commercial stakeholders — growth, marketing and sales — and the ability to translate business objectives into engineering work.
    • Rewards, loyalty, gamification, personalisation or growth platform experience is a strong advantage but is not required.
    • Fintech or payments experience is an advantage, not a requirement.

    Cultural Alignment:

    • As well, we assess every candidate across eight dimensions that define how great leaders operate at Moniepoint.
    • We look for evidence of all eight throughout the process, not just in a single conversation.
    • Customer Obsession: Build deep empathy for users. Solve problems intuitively, and fix root causes, not just tickets.
    • Craft: Master the fundamentals. Reason from first principles, make trade-offs explicit, and raise the bar on quality.
    • Systemisation: Turn repeating decisions into scalable mechanisms. Reduce cognitive load and raise engineering quality.
    • Urgency: Move with disciplined speed. Act autonomously within scope, remove friction, and escalate risks early.
    • Ownership: Treat the platform as your own. Take initiative across boundaries and follow through without reminders.
    • No Ego: Put the mission first. Share credit, welcome debate, and never protect status over team outcomes.
    • Candour: Surface uncomfortable truths and risks early. Intelligent failure is welcome; concealment is not.
    • Integrity: Stay truthful and ethically consistent. Refuse toxic behavior. Performance without integrity is unacceptable.

What Success Looks Like In The Role

    • The existing cashback product performing measurably better — faster, more reliable, and more compelling to customers.
    • A credible rewards platform roadmap defined with Product, and the first initiatives beyond cashback shipped.
    • A functioning experimentation practice, where the team ships, measures and learns on a short cycle.
    • An engineering organisation built out from its current base, with a strong bench of Engineering Managers and senior engineers.
    • Rewards established as a measurable contributor to retention and engagement across the customer base.
    • Clear architecture standards and engineering processes in place across the product units.

    Why Join Us

    • A rare blank page. The platform exists, but almost everything it could become is still ahead of it, and you will define what that is.
    • Direct influence on retention across a base of roughly 23 million users, at one of the largest and fastest-growing digital banks in Africa.
    • Full autonomy as the CTO of your domain, with the backing to build the organisation you think the problem needs.
    • Be part of a mission-driven company expanding access to financial services for millions of businesses and individuals.

What To Expect In The Hiring Process:

    • 60 minute High level System Design round with one of our Engineering Managers.
    • 60 minute Panel Interview with 2 of our Head of Engineering leaders. 30 minutes focused on a technical deep dive into your CV and into a project or system you built in the past. 30 minutes focused on testing for leadership attributes.
    • 60 minute Stakeholder Management Round with one of our Product Heads/VPs, focused on your stakeholder management and collaboration skills with product and business.
    • 60 minute Technical round and Culture fit interview with our Co-founder & Group CTO (the hiring manager).

    Head of Engineering, Field Verification

    About the role

    • Field Verification is how Moniepoint knows that the people and businesses on our platform are real.
    • Every Moniepoint customer, retail and business, requires a completed field verification as part of KYC.
    • The platform coordinates physical, in-person checks — verifying individuals, business owners, business addresses and loan guarantors — and it serves nearly every part of the company: onboarding, loans, compliance and the fraud team.
    • The system works today.
    • A back office gives each business unit visibility and control over its own verification requests.
    • A mobile-friendly web app puts the work in the hands of Field Verification Officers and the cluster leads who manage them across local government areas.
    • An API layer lets other business units push verification requests in and receive results back by webhook, and an assignment algorithm routes each request to an officer close enough to carry it out.
    • We want to be straightforward about the rest.
    • This domain has never had a dedicated engineering leader, and that is the single biggest constraint on it.
    • The team is one lean, cross-functional squad — an Engineering Manager, four engineers and a QA — carrying verification volume for the entire customer base.
    • They have done that impressively well, but running lean means running in keep-the-lights-on mode, and a long list of things that would make this platform substantially better has been waiting for someone to own it.
    • That list is the role.
    • Trip and route management, so an officer can plan an optimal day across several sites rather than making a separate journey for each one — today we pay for a round trip per verification, and the logistics are nowhere near optimal.
    • Capacity management.
    • A native mobile app, wanted for a long time and never resourced.
    • Liveness and identity verification tooling, exposed as APIs the rest of the business can build on.
    • And as Moniepoint expands into markets where identity verification is as difficult as it is in Nigeria, Kenya among them, a platform that works beyond a single country.
    • There is a great deal of room to build here.
    • Whoever takes this on will set the direction rather than inherit someone else's plan, on a system that already carries real weight for the business.

    Responsibilities
As Head of Engineering, Field Verification, your responsibilities will include:

    • Owning the technical strategy, architecture and roadmap for the Field Verification platform end to end, and setting direction for a domain that has been running without dedicated engineering leadership.
    • Moving the platform from keep-the-lights-on operation to deliberate, prioritised development.
    • Leading and growing the existing cross-functional team, and building the organisation out as scope expands.
    • Building the operational efficiency layer — trip and route optimisation, task allocation and capacity management for field officers.
    • Owning the platform's client-facing surface: the APIs and webhooks that other business units integrate with, and the back office those units rely on.
    • Delivering a native mobile experience for field officers.
    • Ensuring verification data is structured, auditable and fit for compliance scrutiny.
    • Building for multi-country expansion as Moniepoint enters new markets.
    • Partnering closely with Product and with the business units that depend on the platform — onboarding, loans, compliance and fraud.
    • Defining architecture standards, engineering processes and quality metrics, and hiring and developing engineers and Engineering Managers.

    Who you are:

    • You have built things yourself, and grew into leadership from there. We are explicit about this: we are not looking for someone who moved into management early and has led from a distance since. We want an engineer who became a leader.
    • You are capable across disciplines. Backend, web and mobile. This platform spans all three and you will need credibility in each — a specialist in one layer will struggle here.
    • You have built platforms, not just products. Systems used by several distinct groups of users and internal business units, with the flexibility to serve requirements you did not anticipate.
    • You are a problem solver first. We would rather have someone adaptable than someone with the exact domain experience. Having built across different industries — fintech, e-commerce, logistics or otherwise — is a positive signal, not a scattered CV.
    • You have 10+ years of overall software engineering experience, with substantial hands-on production engineering and strong backend depth. Our backend environment is Java and Spring Boot.
    • You have at least 5 years of engineering leadership, including managing Engineering Managers.
    • You collaborate well with product and business stakeholders, and can translate operational requirements into engineering solutions.
    • Experience working with location and geospatial data is a strong plus, including map integrations.
    • Experience with route, trip or delivery optimisation is a strong plus.
    • Experience building for compliance — where data must be structured to evidence what was done and when — is a strong plus.
    • Experience with identity, KYC or verification platforms is a plus. None of these four are requirements.

    What Success Looks Like

    • The domain has clear technical ownership and direction for the first time.
    • The team out of keep-the-lights-on mode and delivering against a prioritised roadmap.
    • Measurable improvement in field officer efficiency — more verifications per trip, lower cost per verification.
    • A native mobile experience shipped for field officers.
    • Verification data that stands up to compliance scrutiny across every business unit the platform serves.
    • The platform ready to support a new market.
    • A team grown beyond its current size, with a strong bench of engineers and managers.

    Why Join Us

    • A genuinely greenfield mandate on a system that already matters. Every customer Moniepoint onboards passes through this platform.
    • A lean, capable team making outsized impact, and the remit to build the organisation around them.
    • Breadth: backend, web, mobile, location data, compliance and operational optimisation in one domain.
    • Be part of a mission-driven company expanding access to financial services for millions of businesses and individuals.

What To Expect in The Hiring Process:

    • A preliminary phone call with the recruiter.

    • This is a building role. The hubs are entering their operating phase, and you will own the design of how they run and the teams that run them.

    What you will own

    • Programme design. You will design the operating model for all three hubs from the ground up: how cohorts are structured, how learning is sequenced, what “job market-ready” means at each level, and how graduates are assessed and certified. This is not adapting someone else’s playbook. It is writing one.
    • University relationships. You will be the primary relationship owner with the Vice-Chancellors, deans, faculty leads, and student bodies at OAU, UNN, and ABU. These are institutional relationships that require both strategic seniority and sustained presence.
    • Cross-faculty engagement. The hubs are not engineering faculty initiatives. They are open to students across every faculty: engineering, sciences, humanities, business, design. You will design the engagement model that brings students from across each university into the hub and keeps them in it through the full cohort.
    • Industry and mentorship pipeline. The hubs derive their value from the connection between classroom and industry. You will build and manage the network of engineers, product leaders, and founders, inside Moniepoint and beyond, who mentor, assess, and hire from the hubs.
    • Facilitators and standard.  You will design the facilitator model, recruit the people who teach and assess, and own the standard those facilitators hold the cohort to. A single standard across all three hubs is non-negotiable; how it's delivered locally is yours to design.
    • Infrastructure and operations. You will own the physical footprint of each hub, whether that means a buildout from scratch or working within an existing campus structure, and manage the timelines, vendor relationships, and hub-level budgets across three sites. You will define the staffing model for each hub and recruit the on-ground team that runs them day to day.
    • Outcomes and accountability. You will set and own the metrics: graduate output, job placement, programme completion, cohort quality, employer satisfaction.
    • Pipeline integration. The hubs are upstream of Moniepoint Academy and other talent programmes. You will design the connective tissue between hub graduates and Moniepoint’s internal pathways, so the strongest talent has a clear next step.

    Who you are

    • 10+ years of experience overall, with at least 5 in leadership roles owning programmes, teams, and budgets end to end.
    • You have built or led a technical training or workforce development programme at scale, ideally across multiple sites. You have taken something from zero to one - designed the model, hired the team, and held the standard yourself.
    • You have held institutional relationships at senior level across universities, government bodies, and industry partners. You know how to navigate Nigerian university administration, or you have done it elsewhere and can credibly do it here. You have hired and managed technical educators, and you know what separates someone who can teach from someone who can teach to a standard.
    • You understand what good engineering education looks like and what employers in software, AI, product, and data science actually hire for. You don't need to write code, but you need the technical fluency to design a programme that produces hireable engineers, not credentialed graduates.
    • You are rigorous about outcomes and impatient with programmes that look good in announcements but cannot prove what they produce.
    • Experience in edtech, developer education, university-industry partnerships, or workforce development is a strong signal. Building something from scratch and owning it through to measurable outcomes is essential.

    What success looks like:

    • Year one. Operating model live across all three hubs. Cohorts running on a common standard. The facilitator team hired and held to the same expectations regardless of site. First graduate cohort exited, with a clear placement record into Moniepoint and into industry.
    • Year two. The hubs are recognised within Nigeria as the most credible cross-disciplinary technical training environment available to undergraduates. Employers, including Moniepoint, actively hire from the hubs. Cohort demand outstrips supply.
    • Year three. Hubs producing technical talent into Moniepoint at a cost-per-hire that justifies the investment, and into the wider industry at a scale and quality that defines what a corporate-funded university programme can look like in Nigeria. Model documented and ready to expand if leadership chooses.

    What Moniepoint can offer you

    • The opportunity to shape one of the most consequential talent infrastructure investments in Nigerian technology.
    • A dynamic, diverse, and collaborative environment where every team member's voice is recognised and valued.
    • Continuous learning and career growth opportunities.
    • Competitive salary, individual performance bonuses, and firmwide performance bonus.
    • Company-covered health insurance plans. Pension plans.

What to expect in the hiring process

    • A preliminary conversation with one of our recruiters.
    • An interview with the hiring manager, our Head of Corporate Affairs.
    • A case study or written exercise on operating model design for the hubs.

    Head of Debt Collections

    • The Head, Debt Collection is a strategic leadership position tasked with the architecture and execution of Moniepoint’s debt collection framework.
    • The primary focus of this role is the minimization of Loss Given Default (LGD) within both the business and consumer lending divisions.
    • The incumbent will oversee, develop, and implement comprehensive and versatile debt collection strategies designed to manage a diverse portfolio of credit products, ranging from digital-first retail lending to large-ticket corporate financing.
    • Responsibilities include designing the organizational structure of the debt collection unit and recruiting high-caliber talent.
    • Additionally, specialized expertise in debt litigation and asset recovery will be required to navigate complex cases of delinquency.
    • A data-driven methodology must be utilized to systematically evaluate the efficacy of recovery tactics and the performance of personnel.

     Job Responsibilities

    • Design and implement a segmented debt collection framework — differentiated by product type, ticket size, and delinquency stage — spanning early-stage soft collections through hardcore legal recovery, restructuring, and write-off pathways.
    • Define the org structure, recruit high-caliber talent, and stand up the operational and systems infrastructure (collections management systems, tracking dashboards, agent/dialer tooling) needed to run recovery at scale.
    • Direct legal recovery strategy for the department — whether executed directly or through instruction of external counsel — ensuring all actions comply with applicable financial regulations and debt collection laws.
    • Manage high-level engagements with external stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, and external counsel, to expedite resolution of non-performing loans (NPLs).
    • Design incentive structures and performance frameworks (KPIs, commission or fee structures) for the collections and recovery network to drive both recovery rate and cost-to-collect efficiency.
    • Continuously train and upskill the collections and recovery network in alignment with collections  strategy and industry best practice.
    • Own collections and recovery performance reporting to senior management, including recovery rate, cost of recovery, and portfolio-level LGD trends, and feed recommendations into credit committee decisions on write-offs and restructuring.
    • Collaborate with credit, legal, risk, and finance to align collections and recovery efforts with underwriting standards and portfolio strategy.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
    • Minimum 7 years of experience in credit/debt recovery, including senior leadership of a recovery function handling high-value non-performing loans.
    • Demonstrated experience across both high-ticket/corporate recovery (litigation-led, relationship-driven) and high-volume digital/retail collections (analytics-led, behavioral, tech-enabled)
    • Strong working knowledge of debt recovery laws, banking regulations, and court procedures in Nigeria.

    Head, POS Recovery

    Department: POS Channel
    Reports to: VP, POS Channel

    About this role

    • This role owns the end-to-end recovery of non-performing POS terminal assets — from the moment a terminal is flagged as at risk through to physical retrieval, financial settlement, and post-write-off recovery.

    Responsibilities
    Recovery Strategy Governance:

    • Own the terminal recovery lifecycle that defines escalation speed and settlement windows based on terminal age, transaction history, and recovery economics.
    • Ensure every terminal that enters recovery mode is assigned, tracked, escalated on schedule, and settled within its gate deadline — recovery, write-off, paid write-off, or insurance claim.
    • Design and continuously refine the recovery strategy, covering device collection, swap logistics, sales agent coordination, external agency management, and the efficient flow of assets back to custody.

    Field Team Leadership:

    • Lead, manage, and hold accountable a distributed field recovery team across multiple regions.
    • Instill a culture of operational discipline, accountability, and ethical conduct. Recovery work involves sensitive situations (confronting custodians about lost assets, handling disputes, managing bounty payments); the team must operate with integrity.
    • Develop comprehensive standard operating procedures for every recovery scenario: BRM-led recovery, external agency coordination, business takeover, faulty terminal collection, voluntary write-off processing, dispute handling, revive processing.
    • Build training programmes for recovery agents covering: terminal identification, check-in procedures, evidence collection for disputes, GPS and field management tools, escalation protocols.

    KPI Management and Recovery Economics:

    • Define and track recovery KPIs: recovery rate (pre-write-off), BRM recovery rate, external recovery rate, average days to recovery, cost per recovery, revive rate (post-write-off), bounty efficiency (bounty spend vs recovery value recovered).
    • Own the recovery economics: ensure total bounty spend plus logistics cost is always less than the recovery value of the terminals retrieved. The programme must be self-funding — recovery must generate more value than it costs.
    • Report monthly on: terminals entering recovery mode, terminals recovered, terminals written off, terminals revived, net financial impact, bounty spend, external agency spend, dispute volumes and outcomes.

    Experience & Background

    • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience managing large-scale field operations, logistics, asset recovery, or after-sales service, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
    • Experience managing distributed field teams across multiple regions in Nigeria — you understand the infrastructure, the logistics constraints, and the human dynamics of field recovery operations.
    • Experience managing third-party service providers, contractors, or agency networks with performance-based contracts.
    • Direct experience in the Nigerian market with its specific logistical, regulatory, and operational realities.
    • Preferred: Experience from fintech, telecoms, e-commerce logistics, or any high-volume distributed asset management environment.
    • Preferred: Experience managing asset recovery at scale (thousands of units per month, not dozens).

    Skills & Competencies:

    • Proven ability to design and implement structured operational processes (SOPs, escalation frameworks, settlement procedures) from scratch or through a major restructure.
    • Strong analytical capability — you use data to drive decisions, track performance, calculate ROI on recovery spend.
    • Financial discipline & budget management — experience managing a budget or cost centre, understanding unit economics, and demonstrating net positive recovery value.
    • Technical & Systems acumen — experience with product management/development lifecycles (writing briefs, working with engineers), GPS tracking, CRM, field management tools, or route optimisation platforms.
    • Regulatory & Compliance understanding — familiarity with insurance claim processes, write-off accounting, or asset disposal regulations in Nigeria.

What Success Looks Like in This Role:

    • Terminal recovery lifecycle is tightly governed, ensuring swift escalation and settlement within established gate deadlines.
    • Field recovery operations maintain high ethical standards and operational discipline across all regions.
    • Recovery program operates as a self-funding unit where total recovery value generated consistently exceeds total bounty and logistics expenditure.
    • Robust systems, SOPs, and field management tools are seamlessly integrated into daily team operations.
    • Transparent monthly reporting clearly demonstrates positive net financial impact and high recovery/revive rates.

    Why Join Us?

    • Competitive compensation, benefits, and career growth opportunities.
