    School Technician / Administrative Officer

    Job Summary

    • The school technician and site supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the school’s facility maintenance, ensuring all electrical, heating, plumbing, and equipment systems are functioning optimally.
    • In addition to handling technical tasks, the role requires administrative oversight, managing daily operational tasks, supervising site staff, and maintaining records for reporting purposes.
    • The candidate should have hands-on experience in administration as well as technical roles, bringing both expertise and organizational skills to the job.

    Responsibilties
    Facility Management:

    • Perform a range of tasks as delegated by the facility manager, ensuring all aspects of the school’s maintenance are running efficiently.
    • Monitor, analyze, and maintain electrical systems, identifying issues and suggesting improvements for safety, cost reduction, and efficiency.
    • Collaborate closely with the facility managerand engineers to determine the best placement of electrical wiring and related systems throughout the school.
    • Test devices and equipment for safety, quality control, and performance, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
    • Update and maintain older electrical systems to meet new standards, improving overall quality and safety.
    • Oversee the repair of faulty equipment, electrical units, and wiring across the school campus.
    • Supervise janitors and nannies assigned to different sections of the school, ensuring their adherence to schedules, quality, and safety standards.

    Technical Oversight and Troubleshooting:

    • Perform calibrations for wire placement and the installation of electronic components, ensuring systems are set up properly and meet all operational standards.
    • Responsible for conducting all required electrical qualification tests on projects and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
    • Participate in test runs for systems, ensuring safety measures are met and implemented in every project.
    • Monitor and supervise the maintenance of the power plant and all electrical systems.
    • Perform periodic inspections of equipment, systems, and structures to identify any issues that could hinder functionality or safety.
    • Lead repair efforts for damaged structures and faulty equipment across the campus.

    Preventive Maintenance and Operational Monitoring:

    • Develop and implement preventative maintenance procedures to ensure long-term functionality and efficiency of systems across the school.
    • Oversee the heating and plumbing systems, guaranteeing their proper functionality and readiness.
    • Develop a comprehensive maintenance schedule, ensuring all repairs and inspections are planned and executed promptly.
    • Regularly conduct quality checks on equipment and systems to ensure they are up to the required operational standard.
    • Track and monitor the site’s electrical activities, providing daily, weekly, and monthly reports to the Facility Manager.

    Administrative Duties and Reporting:

    • Maintain records of all maintenance and repair work, including parts used, costs incurred, and time spent on tasks.
    • Ensure all facility-related documents and reports are up-to-date and stored for easy access.
    • Assist in managing budgets for repairs, maintenance, and upgrades, keeping track of all associated costs.
    • Provide regular updates on the status of projects, repairs, and general facility condition to both the Facility Manager and Administration.
    • Contribute to monthly reports summarizing overall facility performance, including major repairs, upgrades, and future needs.

    Coordination with External Contractors:

    • Work with external contractors for major building projects, system installations, and repairs.
    • Ensure all contractors meet the school’s quality standards and safety regulations, providing oversight and coordination throughout the work.
    • Conduct post-project reviews to ensure all tasks have been completed to satisfaction and in accordance with contracts.

    Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities:

    • Supervise and monitor site-based staff (hygiene team, caregivers, etc.) to ensure all tasks are carried out effectively and in alignment with school policies.
    • Offer training and guidance to staff to improve their performance, efficiency, and knowledge of safety protocols.
    • Foster a team-oriented work environment, promoting cooperation and high standards of safety and performance.

    Health and Safety Compliance:

    • Implement and enforce health and safety protocols across all technical tasks and facilities maintenance activities.
    • Ensure all safety regulations are followed in the execution of tasks, providing a safe working environment for staff, students, and visitors.
    • Respond promptly to any emergency situations, ensuring the safety of all school occupants and addressing issues as they arise.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • A Degree or Certification in Electrical Engineering, Building Technology, or a related field.
    • 3 - 6 years previous experience in a technical role with a proven track record in facility maintenance and electrical systems management.
    • Must have prior experience in an administrative capacity in a school or similar environment.
    • Technical school certification is preferred.
    • Knowledge and experience with facility management software are a plus.
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time efficiently.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Strong leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and supervise Junior staff effectively.
    • Must have a high level of attention to detail and a commitment to safety and quality.

    • Track each child’s academic journey, prepare comprehensive reports, and provide timely feedback.
    • Maintain clear academic records and submit timely progress updates to the school leadership.

    Resource Management and Accountability:

    • Manage and monitor all teaching materials, ensuring minimal loss or damage.
    • Submit weekly logs detailing classroom resource usage and condition.
    • Ensure that all class activities are properly documented and archived, including photos and key milestones.

    Behavioural Expectations and Student Discipline:

    • Promote respectful behaviour, self-management, and clear rules.
    • Monitor and manage pupil safety during all activities, ensuring that no child leaves the school unsupervised.

    • Must possess certification in Jolly Phonics, preferably from Chelis School Consultancy or a recognized early childhood education body.
    • Must have a TRCN certification.
    • Prior experience working in a nursery or early childhood setting with knowledge of Jolly Phonics.
    • Ability to nurture young children, fostering both their academic and emotional development, is essential.
    • Must understand and implement teaching pedagogy and be skilled in play-based learning, constructivism, and experiential learning.
